Cancer prognosis

Hi there

My mum was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2017.

Last year in September, she was diagnosed with diffuse large B cell non Hodgkin's lymphoma.

They gave her 4-6 weeks to live. She went downhill and into palliative care.

She then has improved so much that she is out and about shopping, playing cards and she even went on a mini break.

She seems so well and I am so confused, particularly after the prognosis.

The palliative doctors are so vague, so I am not really getting much greater understanding from them.

Has anyone else had this experience? Do things then change suddenly? I just do not know what to make of it all! I moved in with her when she became unwell and its hard to know whether to return home or what is going to happen.

any thoughts would be appreciate!

Hi, that sounds a strange diagnosis for your mum and great news that she is now doing so well. Did she have chemo for the lymphoma? Have you talked to her specialist? I had non Hodgkin’s lymphoma 2 years ago and had 6 rounds of chemo which has worked for me. 🥰 Linda G

I am so glad to hear that for you!

No - mum decided not to treat it, as her ovarian cancer was likely to come back fairly quickly also.

I have read that it is quite fast growing without treatment, hence the confusion as to why she seems to be improving (and for some weeks now - so not just a small surge that you read about).

She is not under a specialist anymore and the palliative team are wonderful but super vague 🙂
