Stage 4 lung cancer

My husband's journey started late October 2025 with constant coughing. My husband is not one to go to see his Dr, so it took a couple times to actually talk him to go.
Just normal testing, bloods, xray...
Getting ready to go to work the next day, to receive a call from his GP, " Shane can't drive out today. He is an Interstate Truck Driver from Perth to Brisbane, weekly.
He has a mass on his left lung that needs to have further checks.
Ok, so a week off work, went to the hospital. Very confusing while we were there, no one knowing what's happening, but eventually we saw a Dr. 5 litres of brown mucky fluid from around his lungs.
Waited 2 weeks for the results, still not able to go back to work., still not sure what was happening. More tests, then 17th November 2025, we got a call to say he has Stage 4 lung cancer. Without treatment, my husband may only live a further 4 months. More tests done. H is irregular , struggling with breathing. Coughing up phlegm. Tired, no energy. Just stays home, awake most of the night, because of being a truck driver, his sleeping pattern distorted.
He sees the Oncologist on the 3rd February, but he doesn't think he needs to, but I need clarity about what is actually happening.
It breaks my heart thinking about everything.

Hello Sheryl15,

You outlined alot in your post. And I can feel your pain and panic.

Having been diagnosed myself with cancer, I can categorically say that the only person who can give you any answers or advice moving forward is the Oncologist. And your Husband has to go to that appointment to know the next steps for themselves and you too.

Hopefully they can provide you with answers to any questions you have. Write them down to ask and then write the answers down as you have the questions answered. It is okay to be scared. But knowledge will be power.

Please also try to look after yourself through all this. You need support too.

Hi @Sheryl15

I'm so sorry to hear what's happened, cancer is always difficult to come to terms with.

Your hubby's oncologist should explain everything, I always wrote down lots of questions and also don't let him go alone, you go too so you can ask lots of questions.

I really feel for you both, it's a hard time.... but never give up. The things they can do now are so advanced

there's always hope.
