Question for bowel cancer patients on chemo

Hey everyone, this is not a "nice" subject but I wonder if anyone else on chemo for their bowel cancer and who also have a colostomy has ever passed hard bits, pea sized bits? It is not poop. I have asked my stoma nurse but the answer was not helpful, she suggests it has something to do with the chemo and the lining of my bowel. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Hi, I went through six weeks of chemoradiotherapy to shrink a tumour in my sigmoid. I hadn't remembered this until your post, but during the treatment I did pass small 'rock like' poo. I don't have a stoma. It went away after I stopped treatment and was not that frequent. I have no medical explanation for this, maybe someone else can help with that. PS - You never have to worry about talking about things that aren't 'nice' here. Us bum cancer people get to talk and joke about all the gooey stuff we like - it's a right we have :) Ben

Hi Deb, I didn't have a stoma but my poos were varied and unpredictable as the 6 months of chemo wore on. I agree with Ben - we have a definite right to discuss poo! I have been advocating brown ribbon day for some time in fact. S

Hi Deb, I too didn't have an "ostomy" of any sort but my bowels were all over the shop too during the treatments. Be sure to mention it to your onc next time you see him/her. In our house we call ourselves "Poo-ologists" 🙂 No cringes here when it comes to poo talk!!! 🙂 Hope you are feeling well. Michele

Hi Deb I had a stoma and underwent chemotherapy for six months. i dont remember having any of the rock things in my bag but i dont remember alot of skin sores around the stoma, the stoma nurse said this may of been from chemo, i also had a few bowel blockages and a few trips to hospital due to bands forming around my bowel from the chemo. Although i cant answer your question i just wanted to wish you all the very best through out your treatment and hope you stay as well as can be. I hope someone can shed some light on your worrys for you.

Hi, I also am so glad we can say "bum cancer" here and talk about all those shitty things! I live with 2 young adults who cringe at every spoken word relating to poo! I am just starting my journey and was operated on the 9/12/11. I went in expecting a bag and woke to find the surgeon was able to recunstruct (a very pleasant surprise). I am home 3 days now and Friday 23/12/11 I get my biopsy results and discuss further treatment. I also have a 16yr old who says "I am sick of all this cancer talk, it's christmas" so I am very glad to find this site where I am allowed to talk POO and cancer. Cheryl

Best possible news EVER! My bowel cancer was a T2NO with no evidence in the lymph-nodes. All removed in surgery and NO chemo at this stage, more tests and follow up in March!!! I feel so blessed but was warned that I am under specialist care for the rest of my life(as this is my 2nd cancer). I so wish I had a magic wand and could make it good news for each and every one of you dealing with cancer! Merry Christmas to you all xx
