views on drinking whilst having chemo

Hi everyone, i was just wondering what everyones views were on drinking whilst having chemo. I only have chemo once a fortnight and when i talk about drinking i only mean a few drinks defenetly no more then 4. im just curious to see wat ppl think about it all. thanks guys.

i think its fine to drink while having chemo, my partner often has beer and it actually makes him feel better.. 🙂

Hi Megan Not trying to appear like a wowser here but I don't think drinking whilst on chemo is probably the best idea. The way I look at it is your body is already undergoing a fair amount of stress from the chemo and if you can aid it rather than stress it further, then it will be better for you. Of course, it is something that you need to make your own mind up about and good luck with your decision. Julie

I couldn't face alcohol when on chemo except for an occasional glass of bubbly. I think it was my liver telling me that it was under enough stress. Now that I have been off chemo for 2 1/2 years I still rarely drink but that is because i don't want to - no real health reasons (except that I do try and protect my liver). I think that it is a personal choice but maybe check with your doctor or nursing staff as to their opinion. Good luck. Samex

G'day megan elizabeth Love the picture. I assume it is you hand feeding the kid. Elsewhere on this site we have had a bit to say about goats - I'll leave Jules2 to bring you up to speed, but welcome to another goat person. Drinking and chemo? Talk to your treating specialist. It will depend on what chemo you are on and the side effects. I understand that many people find that a drink helps their appetite and if you are feeling yuk and off food then that is a good thing. Hi Megan, I agree with Sailor. I was told (when my appetite was really bad) that a glass of wine might help, trouble is that it tasted REALLY DISGUSTING due to the chemo, so I tried some cider instead (not into beer) and that wasn't too bad. Trouble was then that with the treatments that I was on, it was not good for hydration, so only had a glass now and then. craftyone

Hi Megan, My personal opinion on drinking whilst undergoing chemo is: if it tastes good and it makes YOU happy - then go for it. Before my cancer diagnosis 2 years ago I used to love ouzo and coke. Now after lots of radiation and chemo - my taste buds have never fully recovered and I rarely have a drink nowdays, for no other reason than it doesnt taste nice any more! My physician said it was OK to have a glass of wine with dinner throughout treatment. I had not asked. He had made a point of saying it. That should tell you something. I think wine is an important food in the home. I ended up stopping my intake as I lost the taste for it. It did recover but I have lost the taste again recently. Wine is made to enjoy. H

I think, ask your physician. I'm inclined to agree that if you still like the taste and it makes you feel good, then some indulgence won't harm you. Just be careful about alcohol and how it combines with any other drugs (like painkillers) you are taking. Pharmicists can give good advice about that too. Go well with your treatment. I start mine of radiotherapy and four days of chemo, this thursday. I'll visit the forums when I can to see how you are going. cheers Jan

Hi there megan elizabeth, Hey i love your pic too :) As for drinking while having chemo i think if your Dr Onc says it's ok then go for it. Personally i was far too sick to even think about it when i was having chemo, but i believe it's a personal choice;) Mez
