I liked the phrase when I heard it thirteen years ago, but I won't use it in relation to myself now. It seems to apply to hard rubbish collections more than cancer recovery.
What do you thnk?
H
G'day Harker
Couldn't agree more - hard rubbish collection language, what you do when you move into a smaller place and the nursing home gets closer. Cancer Recovery is more about discovering the new and growth, none of this tossing stuff out.

Never go to sea without an onion – Bill Tilman
It depends what was in it. If it was only linen, then no, Juile it doesn't count. Sorry.
On the other hand if it were all the dresses your mum bought you that you never wore because you didn't think they were you and she only did it to impose her style on you anyway, but you were too scared to throw them out, well in that case it would count.
And how many sheds do you have? I don't have any. Can I have one of yours? Sailor and I can sit in it and sing sea shanties.
H
lol Harker you make me laugh. But am sorry i have to pull rank here.
1. I am a girl (woman) so linen does count and the girls far outway the boys on this site. Feel free to jump on in here girls!
and
2. I have 5 sheds and if you really want to borrow one for you and sailor then you will allow 1. to count. :D
So, no old dresses but lots of well hoarded linen! Which some became marked linen - for the pig! Well, for when the pig ummmm well am sure you get the drift where the pig was going. Electricity is involved! so we had a bag marked pig linen! Best dressed pig. haha
Julie
ps if you really are going to sing you can have the sea container - i am sure thats somewhat sound proof. Oh and i might send my son in with you and he can bring his guitar.
Farewell and adieu to you sweet lady Samex
Haul away, heave away
Fare well and adieu for pigs aren't your own
Heave away, haul away
For we've received orders to sing ancient shanties
Haul away, heave away
But we need a spare shed that you must disown.
Heave away, haul away

oooray and up she rises ... early (not sure how to spell that one) in the morning!! Thats the only shanty i know ... think i will leave the shantying, heaving and hauling to harker and sailor.
ARRH -
But that be the reason for the shed
That's be where we keep things,
Things that when drunk,
Ensures that we sing a lot.

My computer has been out and I have just jumped in on this. Trust Harker to produce a litany of sea shanties no less from a "throw away" comment!
Oh girls, the personal downsizing that is needed after last weekend is momumental! I don't have a shed but my husband has a garage for which one virtually needs a passport to enter. There`are scary things in there but never any singing. Instead my 16 year old has a drum kit in the study so peace and quiet is often shattered.
The rule for downsizing (prior to the nursing home) if you haven't worn it for 2 years it goes unless it has sentimental value!
Regarding cancer recovery, maybe it applies to the old "out with the old and in with the new" adage.
thanks for the laugh guys.
S
Quite right too.
If there were no passports to sheds how would we ever get some peace and quiet, and the joy of searching for a 3.16th brad point drill bit everywhere but in the drawer marked drill bits!! Who else would know the value of the piece of heavily figured piece of camphor laurel timber that you bought at the woodwork show twelve years ago and have kept to the special project that you started last week. And as for those stainless steel slot head half inch 6 guage screws that you have there, just in case one comes out of your boat. I mean, who else would realise the value of that piece of wire rigging that is the spare in case your rigging fails and you need a replacement when the shops are shut?
Definitely, passports to sheds are needed.

All things nautical dont last, mylar head sails, varnish, beer! Anon
Alas, my wardrobe is still bulging at the seams... but on the upside... I do have the appropriate attire(plus jewellery) for any 80's/90's/00's theme party :-)
For me personally...it's my time... to downsize the allocated space in my mind devoted to cancer and upsize the space for creativity. I'm going to try my hand at Art Therapy, run by the Cancer Council.

Ah Reindeer. My onc suggested art therapy for me to help with the depression but I haven't followed ip up.
I will check with cancer council next week to see if they run any mear me.
Alwyas been a frustrated artist.
Thanks for prompting me. I hope it is at a venue and time which is viable for me.

Hi Samex
Plenty of options for paint brush work round here. Not sure if it counts as art therapy, but good for relieving guilt feeling over procrastination.
