I have endured chemo/radiation, operation that resulted in a permanent stoma and then chemo treatment again. It has been 7 weeks since I finished it but joint pain started a couple of weeks after and this has been very debilitating not to mention very painful. It is affecting my shoulders, wrists, ankles, right finger joints and back. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced that same thing and if so what treatment helped the most.

Hi Jane, I have had joint pain for the past 7 years - not related to chemo/radiation but I do have Rheumatoid Arthrtitis. It's probably worth going to your GP and having some blood tests as this may or may not be related. I know there are some types of arthritis that can be triggered by other illnesses. I once had a type of arthritis after having a tooth abcess! (this was before the RA days). Medications that helped me (initially) with joint pain were Prednisone and Mobic. Ice packs work well sometimes, as does having a warm bath. Hope you get some answers and feel better soon/

Hi Jane...I have just finished my 2nd cycle of Chemo (lung Cancer) and 5 days of Radiation (Hip)...My worst pain would be legs and calf muscles, mainly at night but also if I lie down during the day.Panadol is not enough but I find endone does help BUT!!! it causes constipation and can be addictive.I have had blood tests to find out if all is OK and they have come back negative. My Oncologist tells me its a side effect of Chemo, so I guess I`ll have to grin and bear it..Ice packs (wrapped in a towel) helps too,and If you can get a massage ,that definately helps but is temporary relief..Hope this helps..Greg

Thanks Greg,I will try some of your suggestions as at the moment I am trying to grin and bear it with Panadol, hope it isn't a permanent thing.

Hi Sue, I have had RA in the past but this I think this is associated with the chemo/radiation. I have found a FaceBook page for bowel cancer suffers and many of these people have had the same thing and some Oncologists have acknowledged that it is a side effect, I can only hope it isn't a permanent fixture in my life. Thank you for your input and suggestions.

Check out the website for Oncology Massage Therapists. They (including me) are qualified Massage Therapist who have done further training in Oncology Massage. If you are going to pursue massage, then this is the way to go. I haven't been on this site for quite a while. I was my hubby's carer
