Greetings!
I'm going, probably, where many of you have been. I start my first of 37 radiation treatments today for my prostate cancer.
After all the pricks, prods, discussions and research it all comes done to a journey that starts at 2pm.
Thanks in advance for well wishes.
I'll keep you posted.
Warmly,
George.
Gday George. And I sincerely wish you the best possible outcome for your journey ahead. I know it will be a successful one, as you show the determination and stamina to beat it.Keep us all informed.
Greg
Just a quick update. I'm good -- optimistic, motivated and just so thankful to the kindness of strangers. My doctors, nurses and admin staff at the hospital just give so much.
I'm lucky. Very. I'm staying, Mon- Friday, at a Rotary house dedicated to cancer travellers The house with its big rooms and every needed facility, is made complete by caring volunteers and hopeful residents.
I'm one week down, with seven to go. But rather than turn it into a dismal experience, my missus and I are treating it as a holiday (of sorts), with the chance to meet and make new friends.
I'm lucky. Very
George.
You rock! I love your attitude. I'm glad you're thinking of this as a holiday- I hope you do get to do some pampering and indulgence that normally goes with holidaying while you're at Rotary House. Keep us updated. love Emily
An early morning shout out to my mates here. Thanks for your encouragement. It's appreciated.
As I said, the Rotary house is a welcoming haven.
My mother said when I was a kid : "George, it's mind over matter." To think I was riddled with fear about treatment, staying in the accommodation, how to cope, in essence how to survive. Yet as I ALWAYS say, but for the comfort of strangers. Bricks and mortar are not the experience, it's people. And how lucky am I? I've met (and am meeting) the best.
So, after so many sleepless nights, when I found that this is doable I have settled in to embracing the journey, aided by those who know and those who care.
So, what am I trying to say? If someone stumbles on to my rave here, as I stumbled on to this site, be strong. I'm comforted by my own thought that this is 2016 - not 1816. These are modern times. Progress is with us and before us. When help, suggestions or an experience is shared, well, take it on board for the value it offers YOU
Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at change. It's what we do with the C word that matters. We can be buried by it, or as many have chosen to do,we can accept that this ain't over -- until we win.
Best wishes to all.
George.
