I am caring for my mother who has had surgery for a large tumor on her tongue, needless to say her eating is limited to soft runny foods and her talking is very hard to understand. Her weight has dropped sufficiently and her energy levels are very low. I should add that my mother is 83 and her quality of life has been quite sad for about 18 months because of illness and depression. I have a sister and brother who help, out with appointments but my husband and I have her living with us which can be stressful at times.

My mother is so afraid of dying of cancer and they have told her that it will return without radiation but then the side affects of radiation is something that she doesn't think she can get through. Plus before she has radiation she has to have eleven of her teeth out on the side that they do the radiation on.
