Has anybody had a -power port put into their body?. I have just had one put in and was wondering what it was like when they use them for injections and so on. Thanks

Hi Graham I am not sure what a power port is. My veins had a mind of their own (ducking and diving when they saw that needle coming!), the first time i had chemo 7 years ago. I had a port put in for chemo therapy the second time i had chemo. Having a port put in last year, was a no-brainer for me. There were no complications whatsoever. The nurses gave me a numbing cream to put on a couple of hours before chemo, and the needle went in with no drama. I had the port taken out under local anaesthetic as soon as i was done with chemo before last christmas. Can you tell me what a power port is? Luv, Barbe xox

Hey Graham, I had a port when I was going through chemo, and am hopefully getting it taken out soon! It makes the whole chemo process so much easier. I dont know about you, but even before my diagnosis my veins were temperamental and had the tendancy to dissapear. So after my first chemo (in which they spent about half an hour just trying to find a suitable vein), they decided on a port. You can buy numbing patches from the chemist, put one on about half an hour before you start chemo, and your set. No pain, and a guarantee of getting your vein first time. I also found with my first chemo when I didnt have my port, one of the chemo drugs actually really hurt my arm when it went in, causing cramps and quite a bit of pain. With the port no pain or discomfort at all. Hope all's well!

High Barb, forgive my computer typing i not use them very much til now. Firstly i dont think mine will be coming out later as i only have a few months to live according to my doctor. What mine is called is a ''power port'' that is the name on the packet. Sure it it same as yours its like a little balloon put under the skin on my chest ,opposite side to heart, and they run a little tube up to my neck and plant that end into a good big vein.So i think what happens now is they put the needle into the lump on my chest and thats it. If you know anybody who is dieing of pancreatic cancer i would appreciate you hooking me up as i not good with this computer. I would like to compare treatments and stuff it may take the lonlyness out of checking in to the big house. lol lol, I sincerly hope you are well and your medical probs are way behind you, good luck and thanks!!!!!

Hi Graham Sorry it took me so long to write back. I must have missed your post somehow! Your port sounds like mine was, all i have to show for it is a nice little scar on my chest! I hope you are doing ok. I wish i could do more to help, and put you in contact with some people, but i dont know anybody who has had, or has pancreatic cancer. Can the cancer council put you in contact with someone? It does really help to talk to someone who is not emotionally involved, and who knows what youre going through. I am happy to have a chat whenever you like, happy to lend an ear.. just leave me a message.. Take care Luv, Barbe xox
