Hi everyone, my mum has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and liver cancer about 6 weeks ago (which doctors say its spread to her abdomen aswell) and was given 6 months without treatment and up to 12 months with treatment. she is 76 yrs old so isn't looking to do treatment. i haven't lost anyone closed to me before or been through anything like this, and im staying strong as i can for her, as i am now her carer. she is very tired and feels sick a fair bit, and when she has these days she wants to give up and i dont know what to say or do, she is on meds and pain relief and some days are fine without feeling sick, we are in touch with palliative care who have been really great, i know i can call the cancer council number in the morning just thought i could do this to. i was wondering also about face to face support groups for her i am in mid north coast NSW, anyone been to support groups other then online? will appreciate any advice on what else can i do for support or and idea of what's to come.
Thank you for reading 🙏
Hello Sanna1320,
Thank you for sharing your difficult news with the group. I am very sorry to hear about your mother's diagnosis. It sounds like you are carrying a lot right now, trying to stay strong for your mother and deal with all your own feelings about your mother being so unwell.
I can see there are times you feel overwhelmed and don't know what to say or do. I am hoping you find support here on the online community, so you feel less alone. It's good to hear that you are connected with palliative care and please do reach out to the Cancer Council number on 13 11 20, to see if there are any face to face groups on the North Coast. If that is not possible, you might like to join our telephone support group for Carers. You can read more about the groups and how to register here: https://onlinecommunity.cancercouncil.com.au/t5/Talking-with-Others/Telephone-Support-Groups/ta-p/35...
