Chemotherapy and White Cell Count

Hi  - first time post for me. Husband has recently been diagnosed with gastric cancer on the back of stage 4 bowel cancer, with mets to liver and lung both successfully treated with radiation. With regard to the gastric cancer, he has commenced chemotherapy to reduce the size with the view to remove the stomach after 4 chemo sessions. My query is, hubby has had only one chemo session and was unable to commence his second as his white cell count was too low. He is devastated that it has been postponed and therefore surgery is delayed and ultimately potential resolution postponed. I know that low WCC happens, but after only one session? And how long does it take to bounce back up?

Hello Ally25.  Thank you for posting.  There are so many questions that come with a cancer diagnosis and this can be a wonderful space to find support from others who connect with your experience and share their own stories.  You may also find it helpful to search Cancer Council NSW's  website or to call Cancer Council's 13 11 20 line for information about your husbands diagnosis,  Kind regards ...
