Re: New Cancer diagnosis for my husband

Hi Susy..I too have been diagnosed with Lung cancer (NSC lung Cancer STage 4 with secondary in pelvis and lympth)around June last year and was diagnosed at a annual check up whilst getting my flue jab. Since then our lifes have been a roller coaster ride of specialists,Biopsies, scans,Xrays,Chemo,Radiation and of coarse the reactions and side effects of the chemo (blood transfusions, viruses, neausea, fatigue etc...etc..etc..) I have had a Total of about 60% reduction in the Tumor and cleared the Lympth, and hopefully have the cancer in the pelvis under control.I was on the GEM/CARBO combination of chemo up until two months ago where They changed me over to Alimta. It is only every three weeks and is easier on my bone marrow, therefore reducing the problems with my blood cells.I will have my third cycle next week, then a CT Scan to see if it is working as well as the first Chemo did.I hope everything will be OK for your Hubby`s next visit.Keep us informed and if there is anything we can help with, please dont hesitate to contact us.. Re: New Cancer diagnosis for my husband

Hi Susy - So sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis. My husband Erik was diagnosed in August to with terminal bone cancer (chondrosarcoma) in the sacrum and its spread extensively to both lungs and lymph nodes also. We've been told its inoperable and incurable and to manage it as best we can. He is currently having radiotherapy on the tumour in his sacrum to reduce its size (hopefully) and reduce his pain and is half way through a six week course of that. We saw a wonderful counsellor provided through the Cancer Council of WA who helped the both of us immensley in those early weeks to come to terms with the initial diagnosis. I understand though when you say your feel so lonely. In those early weeks I wanted desperately to speak to others who had the same cancer as my husband to compare notes and dare I say find out if maybe there was in fact some hope of cure or long term survival. I located an international facebook support group for Chondrosarcoma patients and their families which has been a source of much information, advice and support to me. As time has passed we manage some semblance of the 'new normal' in our lives and continue to put one foot in front of the other and keep going and try to make the most of each day (thats becoming a very well worn cliche now!). I'm happy to talk whenever I'm online (I'm here every couple of days at least). Where do you live ? I'm in Perth. Feel free to add me as a friend if you would like. Good luck

Re: New Cancer diagnosis for my husband

hey guys My husband has CUP metastatic liver Disease and was diagnosed in January 2015 - he has it in his liver and lung and we are unknown to where this all started from. I also joined this site to obtain support because I also feel alone at times. I am finding that you hear about lung cancer, breast cancer but unless you google this condition you really don't hear about it. Back in jan 2015 we where told that if he didn't start chemo straight away (the next day) he wouldn't make it within 3 months. Lucky he started treatment and has become well to the fact his tumours are stinking in size. What I am finding is how to support the loved one and trying to live a "normal life" when you don't know what normal is anymore. you are expected to do a lot but with no support from family and when you seek support from your friends, your family are saying behind your back your doing the wrong thing just feel at times I cant win Grieving wife

Who can help you go thru this I am doing that and it has helped me .... It is a dreadful situation, I am absolutely exhausted ,,, We are just going to go through it, it will be a hard road... They become very difficult with the medication affecting their behaviours,,, Please be assured there is help for you,,,, u can join the carers association in your state,,,,,they are a huge help Best wishes.
