Swollen lymph nodes - post cancer

I finished my final chemo over 3 weeks ago. Feeling great however the last week have experienced swollen lymph nodes in my arm  pits. I had H. Lymphoma stage 2 near my heart but never felt this pain during cancer.

Has anyone else experienced swollen lymph nodes post cancer treatment? I am due for my scan in 2 weeks - but would be good to get some feedback before then from other cancer survivors.

Re: Swollen lymph nodes - post cancer

lymph nodes are busy doing their job. Sometimes they get overloaded. You have just had chemo and lots of fluids so your body will be trying hard to process all that . Don't panic about it. Just wait and see how you next scans go, ask your medical person to check . If they don't settle down you could see a lymphoedema therapist  as they the ones who can teach you how to move fluid, but that can only happen after you been clearnace by doctor.

I had breast cancer 18 years ago and had 11 nodes removed in my armpit, i know how uncomfortable a puffy armpit is.But I knew that was lymph fluid. Excess fluid does cause pain for me. But have had to learn how to keep swelling down with self massage, deep breathing, compression, skin care, lymph moving movements.  Our lymphatic system is amzing, but  some gentle tai chi is great for armpits , breathing and arm waving, slow body turning . That should be safe for you to do until you get doctor clearance. Try it a little ,gentle sequence  for a  short time, then wait, and see if it helps. Next time you see your doc ask about lymphodema risk in relation to your specific surgery and if you need a referal .Or just to wait until post surgery and chemo settles down. There are a bunch of nodes alos in the middle of our chest, and our thorasic duct nearby that handles all the lymph fluid, if they poked around near there. Plus our heart and circuilation system effects fluids, and digestion ... so many things can effect our 'fluid ' balance. Hope your feeling better sooon.

Re: Swollen lymph nodes - post cancer

Hi Kristenm

Thanks so much for your reply. That has made me feel a lot better. The pain has calmed right down since I tried a heated pillow and some gentle massage. I will follow your advice if it doesn’t settle down. Thanks again.

Melissa 🤗
