Happy Cinco De Mayo as Day 37 has been a long time getting here. The last of the radiotherapy treatments is in 2 hours time. Packed up my bags, booked my ticket home and the 600kms trek begins in a day's time. Back home to reality. Cannot say it is going to be easy as there is the unemployment problems looming over my head and that hassle has been there for 2 years. Head off to the employment agencies as I think I have more chances of getting a job then the dole. I'll be able to pass a medical now that the 8 months of hospital treatments have finished. Tools are probably rusty now maybe we both are a little that way inclined. Good luck one and all.

2 Treatments to go and at 12:30 Tuesday 5th May otherwise known as cinco de mayo, I am heading out the front door of this hospital and going home for the first time in close to 2 months now. Appointment and blood tests for after the 6 week rest have been made and so the day before my next birthday I am back for what should be a 3 minute talk with the Professor then back home the next day. Today's session I noticed my appointment time got changed 5 times and I still ended up waiting for my usual time period of 12:30 before I get zapped. After a while you get to know when bladder if full enough and sit quietly watching everyone else as they head in before you knowing damn well you are the last for the morning's session. But my ice cream which I had sitting in my bag did not melt in the 2 hours it had to wait in there. Oh joy chocolate ice cream and Greek yogurt after dinner whatever dinner is as I have not bothered to give that any thought.

Day 31 and with 6 more treatments left and have my bags packed ready to go back home. Dietitian appointment and she happy that I am back to normal weight. Irritation of the urethra is very minor and bowel problem is fine. The slight skin irritation has gone near the centre tattoo. Applied for a couple of jobs got the usual thanks but no thanks. Bus tripped 3 hours across Perth and back with maybe a casual job lined up. At least that is something.

Hello Kim Have a hug from me as I think you need one more than I do. I have given up on Centrelink ever giving me anything even a low income support card seems beyond my reach and I would have liked to have one plus a certificate of income from them too during my stay in Perth these 2 months. But the 20 point system is there for a reason and from the outside I look as healthy as anyone else walking down the streets of Perth. So apart from going through bouts of depression I have to ask myself why bother putting myself through this stress again just get well and worry about a job when I get back home, or leave WA and go play farmer in NSW instead.

The Cancer level is at T2c which is still in the Prostate it has not apparently escaped into the surrounding tissue but I unlike you have not had an MRI just a short CT scan to find the gold beads before they stab 3 tattoo marks into your body. For me the middle of week 2 the diarrhea and Urinary tract problems kept me busy for 3 to 4 hours a day and yet at Easter the 4 day break along with cutting caffeine intake in half it subsided. Finding it very hard to urinate after the treatment if I try to stop myself going to the toilet before the treatment so of late I just go when the urge is too great as the machine is not always running on time and the "30 minute late" sign spells disaster for trying to get the bladder right and on time. Yesterday I noticed tenderness of the skin at the middle tattoo mark. Along with hair loss hahaha Fatigue I did not give that any thought until you mentioned it and the last 2 days I have been noticing some but thought it was due to a massage getting things moving again. HT I do not have as my prostate is at a volume of 30 and testosterone of 13 the Doctor is happy with.

Dr Centrelink says I failed the 20 points necessary for them to pay me a Disability Allowance and I can work 15 hours a week. Wow nice of Dr Centrelink to tell me that and its only taken him/her 8 months to decide that. Never mind that I am in hospital 600 kms from home and this is the 4th hospital in 8 months little time to spend working as health comes first. Hard enough at 61 years young and over qualified to even get an interview. Been unemployed for close to 2 years and not a red cent has Centrelink paid me. At times I am lost for words to describe the infernal frustration with those blithering uneducated idiots who work (that is questionable) for that Government Department who have the lives of so many in their hands. Swearing does not help but .... So day 27 and 10 treatments to go, Bowel and Urinary Tract are better behaved these last 9 days now. So I guess I just go through the motions and get on with life in May.

Gleason score at 6 and Testosterone at 13 and Vol at 30. Will be close to end of June before allowed to do the blood test. Have not had MRI and am intending asking a Doctor about that but missed her on Friday. The Urologist I have only seen twice and that was in the initial stages before the biopsy but he has me down for two procedures at another hospital which are due to be carried out this month and still nothing confirmed as yet. Living at a Cancer Council Accommodation Lodge in Perth from 8th March till 5th May. The Hospital is next door making it easy to attend the appointments as I live 600 kms east of here and I thank them for it as it has saved me a lot of hassles.

Am going through something similar to you. Have Prostate Cancer at T2c, 4 gold beads and at day 22 of the radiotherapy sessions with 15 to go. Have not had to have any medication to shrink the prostate or for hormonal treatment. 4 years ago my PSA level doubled and no one noticed. Last year after the yearly test it was at 5.2, 3 hospitals later and after the biopsy it dropped to 4.4 and I joked with the doctors saying a few more biopsy session's and the cancer will be removed. Hope all goes well with your treatment

Urinary tract and Bowel problems seem to have subsided and not sure if it's due to the Easter 4 day break or the decrease in coffee intake that has allowed things to settle but I am happier about it as now I can get out of the hospital environment and walk or take the train somewhere. That though did not stop a massive dose of depression on the 8th April as things are just getting on top of me. On the scale of 10 is good I suspect I was 2.
