My father passed away three weeks ago under palliative care at home. I was honoured to spend his last days on earth with him. I am unable to sleep and feel that I need to express how I feel so I have written a poem. I'm no expert at it but it makes me feel better to tell the world how I feel.
As a baby you were my world
As a child you were my hero
As an adolescent you were my idol
As an adult you were my wise advisor
As a bride you will be with me in spirit
As a new parent you will be missed
As my children grow you will be remembered through your legacies
As my children leave home I will understand your wisdom
As I retire I will realise you never experienced retirement
As I grow old i will realise it may not be a bad thing to die young.
As I face death I will understand your fears
Love you dad
