Tomorrow we get the results of my genetic testing. I feel like if it is positive that the family will blame me for putting them all in danger. Logically that is a silly thing to think but it is hard to think logically sometimes. I guess the way to look at it is that if we do have the gene that it is good we found out & that the others can take precautions and maybe be saved from having cancer. But if I try to think that way to put a positive spin on it then I feel annoyed about why did I have to be the first one to get cancer. Why couldn't one of them have got it first and saved me? I have not really thought "why me" about my cancer. I have just thought of it as a random thing. But if it is caused by a gene then that means it was not as random and somehow I find that idea a lot harder to deal with. There is no point to all this worrying as I might not even have the gene. But I don't find out until tomorrow so I'll just keep worrying until then.

Hi Allicat, you draw my attention and I started wondering how good it would be to know was my cancer genetic??? After all I am the third one among my family and relatives having a cancer, so there's a good chance that the thing is genetically and what you said others could be warned and take more care. But, actually I wanted to ask you how you get doctors to make the test? How did your test go? Have you got results? Wish you all the best. Vlasta 🙂

Hi Vlasta We got the results & they were negative. Yay! Apparently they are still developing new tests and in another year or so they will be able to do more tests for other gene combinations that could be a cancer risk. But as far as they can tell at the moment there is no gene issue. Our oncologist sent us for genetic testing because I was quite young for cancer and then my older sister was diagnosed as well. I don't know if you can request to get genetic testing but you could ask your oncologist and I guess they could advise you. Best wishes

We both had breast cancer. I have completed all my main treatment and am feeling good. She still has 2 more weeks of radiotherapy and is feeling tired and unwell.
