My father has terminal Cancer

Hi guys, my father was diagnosed with lung cancer 2 weeks ago, and just got more news that it has spread all over his body. It's tough to hear considering he goes to the doctors every 3months and nothing has ever been picked up!

I'm angry at his gp for not picking up on anything.

On top of this, he has decided that he wants to go overseas to spend the rest of his time back home and be buried with his mom, dad and sister. Which is frustrating because the rest of his family is here! I don't know what to do or how to deal with any of this!

Re: My father has terminal Cancer

I am so sorry to hear that. My grandma has lung cancer as well and she is on radiotherapy right now to control the cancer cells. She was having a difficult time with all those negative mindsets where it doesn't do anything but hurt her mentally and turns physical. I am a life coach that's why I know how powerful the mind can help the body to keep fighting cancer. So I got her a life coach to help her with her mindset. It really helped my grandma to raise and be positive about herself and more mainly she enjoys her life once again compare to complaining all the time. And cancer looking steady atm which I think mostly came from this mindset shift. Don't give up~

Re: My father has terminal Cancer

Hello, I am so sorry to hear. My Mother has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung cancer. She has been having lung x-rays every year and it has only been this year that it showed something, which is so frustrating. We only got the news yesterday and she is now having to go see on Oncologist as they are planning Chemo with immunotherapy plus radiation.

The specialist did mention that with this type of cancer, it usually goes undetected until it has spread.

I do hope that you get to spend some time with your Dad and remember the good times.

Re: My father has terminal Cancer

Hi Cin79 and others on this thread,

My mum was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer last week, and I am really struggling to get my head around it plus I am feeling really emotional about it all.😥 It's come by a surprise as mum was not sick and only start to feel unwell a couple of weeks ago - I am really upset by this!!!!!

I know I have to be strong but I am looking for some support and any tips you may be able to share.

Mum starts chemo tomorrow, so wish us some luck.  This is the only option that is available to us now, but I am keen to hear if there are any other options that may have been made available to your situations.

This is a great post, thanks for sharing.  Are there any websites you can recommend for a positive mindset for the caregiver - me?

Re: My father has terminal Cancer

Hi Alex,

I have been through a similar situation with my mum - I am heartbroken and I am still in shock with the diagnosis.  Has your dad decided not to do chemo - was it an option for him?

Re: My father has terminal Cancer

It's only normal to get angry. It's the  nature of the illness though. No test if 100% accurate. My dad experienced the same thing with prostate cancer. Just try and concentrate on things you can control.
