Re : Oncologist

Hi everyone I’m just a bit nervous as tomorrow I will be seeing the oncology regarding chemo.  I will keep you all inform what happen and how long I will have chemo for?  I’m just a bit stress as to what it will cost for the treatment of chemo, I know Medicare covers certain amount  as I’m on a dsp pension. I will find this out tomorrow and maybe someone might be able to help me.

Hello Mary60,

Today is Monday  I hope you had the opportunity to talk to your oncologists about your chemotherapy.

Unfortunately the financial side of it adds to the unwanted stress. If you have any clinical questions about your treatment, please call our information and support line on 131120 Monday to Friday from 9 to 5pm (Australia only)

I would like to share with you a couple of links that provide some information about chemotherapy, I hope they can answer some of your questions.

Looking forward to your next update.

Kind regards

Re: Re : Oncologist

Hi @Susana_CCNSW  just to let you know I’m starting my chemo on Friday I will be having two drugs one through a drip and the other is oral.  The name of the drug is Oxaliplatin the drip and Capecitabine is the oral. I will be having chemo every 3 weeks for 3-5 months.

Re: Re : Oncologist

Hi.. I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer August 2023 and was already on the DSP. Treatment has all been free, with help for travel and accommodation being covered by IPTASS and CanAssist as I'm in a regional area and had to travel for treatment. Ask your cancer nurse about the help available. I too was extremely concerned that I wouldn't be able to afford treatment,  but that has not been the case. Good luck with your appointments.
