Seeking Recommendations for Supportive Doctors

Hello, I’m reaching out as I’m navigating some challenging health issues, including breast cancer, and it’s been a difficult journey.

Along with the physical challenges, I’m also dealing with the impact it’s having on my mental health. I’ve found it especially tough to manage everything on my own.

Unfortunately, I’ve struggled to find a healthcare professional who feels truly supportive, particularly when it comes to decision-making and providing guidance during this time. My doctor, though knowledgeable, seems hesitant to make decisions independently, relying heavily on input from specialists, even when she knows my situation intimately. This has made an already tough situation feel even more overwhelming.

I’m hoping to find a doctor who can offer strong support, understanding, and a more proactive approach to managing both my physical and mental health. If anyone has any recommendations for a doctor who is compassionate, clear, and willing to take charge of my care, I would truly appreciate it.

I live in Melbourne's South Eastern suburbs.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Re: Seeking Recommendations for Supportive Doctors

Hi Sueab,

Thank you for reaching out online here. I really hope the community here can guide you well. It sounds like it's a really trying time for you as you figure out your options and look for more support.

Although we can't advise you about specific doctors at CCNSW, I do want to offer our support services if you need some additional help mentally/emotionally.

You can always call our 13 11 20 line and get a referral to either:

- Our Cancer Counselling service if you would like some help from a qualified and Registered Counsellor.

- Our Cancer Connect service, where if you have early stage/localised cancer you can be connected with someone who has had their own lived experience of Breast Cancer where they can be a sounding board and you can ask questions about side effects, what life looks like during and after treatment etc.

- Depending on staging, we also have Telephone Support Groups where you can speak to others going through the cancer journey, but this is reserved for those with metastatic/advanced cancers.

Reach out if there's anything we can do to best support you during all of this.

Thinking of you.

Ashley
