Hello,
I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in October last year, and have been having chemotherapy over the last 6 months, which I complete next week.
Apart from the side effects which have at times been challenging. I have found it extremely difficult to come to terms with my hair loss and my appearance now, as I feel I have that "cancer look" about me.
I no longer go out, apart from the hospital or doctor appointments, as the only places I felt comfortable are at home and when I was working, people knew me at the office and my story, and so I felt comfortable there too, however, I have now left work for a few months to concentrate on getting better.
Have others found this challenging, the looks of pity you receive when going out, and also just the embarrassment of how you look?
I won't even let my husband see me without wearing a cap in the home?
Is this normal?

Hi @CathyB6 Thank you so much for sharing how you're feeling and the challenges you're facing with your confidence coping with the side effects of treatment. Here is some information that may be helpful also as you work your way through the very natural feelings you're having. There is some information on Appearance Changes that might help also.

Hi Cathy,
Have you tried a wig when you go out? The Cancer Council loan out wigs for a year or more, at no charge. You are able to try on different styles to see which one you would prefer. They also give out beanies, which I felt comfortable wearing last winter. My hair started growing back about 2 months after chemo and is now grown back almost as before, after nearly a year.
