I am scared, I think I have Stomach Cancer..please help!

I have been having too many burps and passing gas for a month now. Over the last week I experienced a burning sensation in my stomach and some pain near my navel. Though I am eating ok and no problems swallowing, I have clammy hands and feet and don’t feel well. I guess I have lost a kilo in about 10 days, I have an ultrasound in two days but really scared as I can’t face the reality. I have a funny feeling like a pulse in my navel too. Please help.

Hi @TS228,

Don't worry! I know it's easier said than done, but really, worrying will do more harm than good. Its great that you're having an ultrasound because you've started the ball rolling.
Pain around the naval area could be any number of things, not necessarily cancer. It could be a hernia, appendicitis or gall stones. Just wait for a few more days & you'll have the results. Then, if its cancer, you'll deal with it. There is absolutely no point in worrying.

Chin up!

Budgie

@Budgie Your words of support mean a lot. I have been having the symptoms for about 10-15 days and they are only increasing. I have moved my ultrasound tomorrow, so that I can hopefully spend some time less anxious.
Real feel better after reading your post. Will let you know how I go..

Re: I am scared, I think I have Stomach Cancer..please help!

Hi Budgie,

I have just had my scan, feel much better than yesterday as the sonographer scanned the upper abdomen and said "so far so good". I dont have images of the stomach though. Though I feel better, I am a bit worried that the ultrasound might not have caught the problem.

Will let you know how I go tomorrow as well.

Thanks again,

TS228

Re: I am scared, I think I have Stomach Cancer..please help!

Hi Budgie,
There was nothing abnormal in the ultrasound, everything seems normal in the blood results too. I have been given some PPI to stop with the burning. He does not feel that there is anything to worry about at this stage. He has asked that I wait for two weeks and will then refer me to a specialist, if things don't improve. Fingers crossed it will improve by then :). it has been really nice to have your support all this while. Thank you very much!

Re: I am scared, I think I have Stomach Cancer..please help!

Hi @Budgie,

Quick update, anxiety got the better of me and I almost begged my GP to give me a referral. I saw the specialist earlier this week. I had my endoscopy done today and it was reflux oesophagitis (mild) . I have been asked to see the specialist again in 2-4 weeks and to continue to take my medication till then. All this while I continued to be reminded of your support. Thank you once again and I really hope all goes well with you..

Regards,
TS
