This week (18–24 May) marks National Volunteer Week, Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering. It’s a chance to recognise the incredible people who give their time to support others.
At Cancer Council NSW, we are proud to have more than 630 dedicated volunteers who play a vital role across our programs, services and events. They support people impacted by cancer through services like Cancer Connect and Transport to Treatment. They also help drive awareness and fundraising through initiatives like Relay for Life. Others contribute to prevention, advocacy and community education efforts that help reduce cancer risk and support those affected.
Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do.
This year’s theme, Your Year to Volunteer, celebrates the impact of volunteers and encourages more people to get involved in ways that work for them. It’s also a special year globally, aligned with the United Nations International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development. This highlights how volunteering helps build stronger, more inclusive communities.
Across Australia, more than six million people volunteer. Together, they make an extraordinary difference. At Cancer Council NSW, our volunteers come from all walks of life. They represent over 40 countries of birth and bring compassion, dedication and lived experience to support those affected by cancer when they need it most.
To all our volunteers... thank you. Your generosity, kindness and commitment help us move closer to a future where we can better prevent, detect and treat cancer, and support every family impacted by it.
It truly is all of us against cancer.
If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, this could be your moment. Whether you have a little time or a lot, there are many ways to get involved and make a meaningful difference.
