Pic line or Port line ?
I have just started Chemo today which will run for about 6 months. I currently have a pic line in my arm. They have also discussed a port line when a specialist is available. I was wondering what other people's experience has been... Which is better?
Thanks

Re: Pic line or Port line ?
Hi Albundy21,
I had a port-a-cath installed (is installed the right term?). I never had a chemo via a pic line.
From my perspective and limited experience, the port-a-cath was hassle free.
A local anaesthetic while it's installed (and a bit of discomfort when the anaesthetic wears off), but that was about it. Hardley even feel anything when being connected up to the chemo.
I had chemo every 2 weeks for 6 months (FOLFOX).
If I ever need chemo again, I'll have a port-a-cath installed again. No stress.

Re: Pic line or Port line ?
Thanks for your reply, I think it maybe the best choice. I was told it is lot easier when it comes to washing or having a shower. At the moment I have to wrap a plastic bag around my arm to keep the pic line dry. The pic line dosen't hurt, but I also have to careful with my arm not to bump it or lift anything a bit heavy as it may cause bruising.
Thanks
