Hi all
Haven't poked my head in the site for a wall.
Sailor, you are right, there are male workshops as well.. men need to know about looking after their skin as well. there is a "teen" workshop as well, i haven't done one of those yet.
Spread the word it is a fantastic initiative!

Hi Graham
Sorry it took me so long to write back. I must have missed your post somehow!
Your port sounds like mine was, all i have to show for it is a nice little scar on my chest!
I hope you are doing ok. I wish i could do more to help, and put you in contact with some people, but i dont know anybody who has had, or has pancreatic cancer. Can the cancer council put you in contact with someone?
It does really help to talk to someone who is not emotionally involved, and who knows what youre going through.
I am happy to have a chat whenever you like, happy to lend an ear..
just leave me a message..
Take care

Hiya Miss Lane
I have had breastcancer twice in the same breast in the last 7 years. Both cancers were completely different and primary cancers. My oncologist suggested i should be tested for BRCA1 and 2 genes, because both cancers were quite aggressive, the 2nd one being triple negative. I am not sure why you say your mothers DNA is needed to be tested - my family lives overseas and only mine was tested. I do not carry the BRCA1 nor BRCA2 genes. However, i might be carrying a gene that has not been discovered yet, that makes me pre disposed to breastcancer. The good news is, with me not being a carrier of these genes, it makes me less at risk to get ovarian cancer. Something less to worry about i guess.
I took the test because i wanted to know if i carry both genes for my sister and mother's sake, and for my daughters sake.
I had a lumpectomy, the first time and had a mastectomy when i discovered the second lump. Like mrs Eltons sister-in -law, i had a reconstruction with skin from my tummy, immediately after my mastectomy.
A year later, i decided to have a prophylactic mastectomy and had a reconstruction with an implant.
I can understand that it is a hard decision to make, I can only tell you what mine was.
I had the prophylactic mastectomy for peace of mind, there was no cancer in that breast - and I felt like i took control of a situation that was out of my hands for a while.
I am back at work full time and back at the gym 6 months later, I am fit and healthy and i feel that I have made the right decision for me. You have to weigh up what is best for you.
Happy to have a chat to you whenever you want.
Good luck, Take care

Hey Jules!
Glad you had such a good time!
The goody bag is definitely amazing, im still using some of my stuff now, a year and a half after receiving it.
I am looking forward to conducting my 3rd workshop next monday. This will make me from "trainee volunteer", to a fully fledged LGFB volunteer, with a badge to prove it!
It is a fantastic and generous initiative by the cosmetic industry of australia and its volunteers.
Take care,

Hi Graham
I am not sure what a power port is. My veins had a mind of their own (ducking and diving when they saw that needle coming!), the first time i had chemo 7 years ago. I had a port put in for chemo therapy the second time i had chemo. Having a port put in last year, was a no-brainer for me. There were no complications whatsoever. The nurses gave me a numbing cream to put on a couple of hours before chemo, and the needle went in with no drama.
I had the port taken out under local anaesthetic as soon as i was done with chemo before last christmas.
Can you tell me what a power port is?
