Hi @Emma1 , Good on you, yes you'll be ok, there's so many other women going through the same thing, you're not alone. Although going through chemo I know can be hard, they are so advanced now in this field now a days that lots of side affects can be helped, so making it a bit easier. I found what really helped me as well was being prescribed sleeping meds, this helped me get through the nights.Then the days are easier too. Hi @Milo01 , Lovely to hear from you, glad your chemo's finished. It took me a while to get my strength back , but I found exercise helped me, I kind of got a bit addicted to it actually!! and made a lot of friends at my gym, it's really, really helped me to move on. But it's not for everyone I know. I have been having pet scans at first every 3 months then 6 monthly, to make sure all good & no cancer return. All's been fine. I hope you have these and find all ok too. I also have to have a cystoscopy now and then to check out that my bladder's clear. I try to be positive about it all. My life's fine at the moment, I'm lucky, but thank you for asking. De cluttering is a wonderfully satisfying thing to do I think! maybe just do small amounts at a time, but I've always found it quite a cleansing feeling when you do get rid of accumulated junk. I just don't know where it all comes from!! we seem to collect a lot over the years. Anyway, if you don't mind me asking, did they tell you if the chemo was a success? I'm so sorry for you, it's not fair that you have relatives around you who sound a bit heartless, you just need to plod on and try to reach out here or get together with others going through the same as you. Also your cancer nurses should be able to put you in touch with groups who get together (who have the same cancer) and you can all support each other....you'll find caring people there. @Di57  Hi Dianne, Glad that's over and you can now start healing. Oh I remember those drains, yes they are annoying but they are doing their job. That's great that you're not in any pain. Have you been assigned your breast cancer nurse ? those nurses are wonderful. I didn't have radio therapy, and I hope you don't have to have that, although my cousin had that and she said she felt nothing, so she found it ok.Everyone's diferent. But maybe you wont have to anyway. Have they explained to you about the immunotherapy? @Emma1  Hello Emma, The best thing I can say is to "ask your b.c. nurse', every chemo is different and everyone reacts differently also. I found that I could still go about my normal stuff most of the time, but you will get tired. They will give you all sorts of meds to help you with side affects, but one thing I found SO helpful was sleeping pills, I requested them and it really helped me at night which I think really helped me to get through the days quite well. The cancer nurses are invaluable, they are angels! so, so helpful, at any time I needed I could ring them, I got allocated one who was my "go to" and she was my guardian angel😊 You'll be right, think of treatment as your life saver, you'll be ok. @Emma1 , Hi Emma, Try not to think the worst as it's very treatable especially at stage 2. I also had hormonal type breast cancer ( Lobual) , stage 2, I had it in both breasts so had a bilateral mastectomy, and 7 lymph nodes removed. I was so revealed to get the mastectomy as I hated the thought of cancer in them. I actually didn't need chemo so I was lucky, maybe you wont either, but whatever your treatment, you wont be alone as the nurses are fabulous and so supportive. My anti hormonal meds I'm on now are called Anastrozole, I had tried a couple of others but I found this one the kindest with fewer side affects, just some hot flushes, so that's good. Also I had 3 monthly pet scans to make sure there was no return and then 6 monthly, and then it'll be just yearly, all good so far. Unfortunately I got bladder cancer the next year ( not related to the b.c.) but for that I had to have chemo. Please don't fret too much, you'll be ok. @Di57  Hi Dianne, Sorry you've been sick but glad your better. Try not to think the worst, think of it as a battle, and you're having this operation to beat the cancer. They will give you medication to stop the pain, and I found as the days went by the easier it became, as long as I kept up the pain meds for a little while ( mainly at night time), it healed pretty quickly. After a couple of weeks I started walking around my area, and after 8 weeks post op I was back in my gym doing light exercise. It really helps. Also you'll find medicare will help with a lot of things, ask the bc nurses, they'll fill you in. I know Warrambool, I visited there once when traveling in Victoria, lovely place.
