It's a very trying time immediately after diagnosis, there's so many unknowns. But don't hesitate about taking her to ER. That's what they are there for. I did that myself a few weeks back and they were fantastic.   After initial diagnosis there are a number of tests that need to be done. A PET scan shows the extent of the cancer. During a bronchoscopy they get a video camera into the lungs so they can see exactly what's there, and they also do a biopsy to determine what sort of cancer it is.
