Safer Internet Day (SID) is a global event held on Tuesday, 6th of February, to help encourage a better internet.

This year’s theme is: ‘Create, connect and share respect: A better internet starts with you’.

At its core, Safer Internet Day's theme this year is about treating those online, the way you would expect to be treated in a face-to-face or real life situation - with respect and dignity. Here in the Cancer Council Online Community, we champion this sentiment and encourage all our members to treat each other's views and experiences with respect, even if you may not agree with them.

We are blessed that the all members of our Cancer Council Online Community have helped create a community of Australians that do treat each other with consideration and respect. For this you have our thanks Smiley Very Happy

However, it can sometimes be easy to forget that there is another human being on the other side reading what you may be typing and they may not take it in the way you meant it. It helps to take a few minutes to think about a response, in the event that you do strongly disagree with someone.

When posting, it is also helpful to be mindful of our Community Guidelines, which essentially mean no excessive swearing, spamming, threats or otherwise being inconsiderate of others. The Cancer Council Online Community is an inclusive and safe place for anyone affected by cancer Heart
