I suppose this is a question everyone asks. Well my dad was diagnosed in July with stage 4 non-Hopkins lymphoma. He was doing well with his treatment and then my mum got really sick. She was going to the dr continually but he could find nothing wrong. I go there Friday to drop my son off as they look after him while I work and there is my mum struggling to breath. I call a ambulance and she is rushed to hospital. She was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach and liver cancer. My mum is my world. How am I going to cope???

Hi frangipani75 I think most people ask themselves that question whether they are the one's diagnosed or family of the person. My mum answered me when I asked her that on my first cancer diagnosis and she said "you will cope, you will dig deep and get through this" and she was right, I did. I think if we can maintain a healthy attitude throughout all the this then we are half way there. My best to you. Julie

frangapani75 Words can't express properly the trauma and emotions your family will be going through at this moment, so I wish you and your parents all the best for the times ahead. kj

Hi Frangipani75 I am sorry to hear about your parents...we are in the same predicament. You have identified a lot of my fears about how my 3 children are being affected by both my husband and I having cancer. My husband was diagnosed in Dec 2008 and I was diagnosed in Dec2012. I hate the fact they are having to deal with our cancers. I feel very saddened that the cancers that we have put a damper on their young lives when they should have care- free times( two in their 20's and one in early 30' s) ! They are all very close to us and although we don't live close to any of them they text, email, phone and Skype us many times each week. My mother also had a philosophy on life similar to Julie's mum . Her philosophy was that we have to accept and live as best we can with the "cards" that we have been dealt in life...and in turn get on with life as best you can. So that is what we are all trying and we are very honest with our chn and tell them all the medical info too. I think having a depth of understanding helps them ...well so they say. You will find the strength to cope and remember to have plenty of laughs with them as I know it helps me and them . I am sorry too that you have to cope/ deal with this...it is not fair is it!
