My mum suddenly got diagnosed with liver cancer stage 4

It was mid December 2010 my mum was hospitalized for pneumonia, two weeks after she feel over in the bathroom while she still under hospital treatment. Her pelvic was fractured but it got fixed through laser surgery. Weird thing her health got deteriorate and her stomach was swollen. She had biopsy done in mid January was confirmed she had liver cancer that quite aggressive. She had TACE done on February which made her felt really ill. Beginning march she came out from hospital due to hospital bill that cost an arm and a leg. So we tried alternative treatment kind of herbal medication called TYPHONIUM FLAGELLIFORME (in latin) or (RODENT TUBER in English). However while on herbal medication she was banned to eat anything greasy, sugary, salty and dairy product. She also wasn’t allowed to eat any kind of meat but only certain vegetables and lots of legume. However my mum lost lots of weight. She said felt fine but she lost appetite due to all the food she consumed taste so plain. So her energy gone down hill, she end up being hospitalised again until present time. She now eats through feeding tube. My question is does anyone out there has any experience with liver cancer. If you do, could you please tell me how successful TACE in treating liver cancer. I know there is no cure yet but how long the suffered could live after TACE? Also does anybody know much about TYPHONIUM FLAGELLIFORME (in Latin) or (RODENT TUBER in English)? We were recommended by a cancer specialist but we don’t know if it would only work case by case. Thank you kindly.

Re: My mum suddenly got diagnosed with liver cancer stage 4

Hi Jozmaye, Sorry to hear about your mum. I suppose survival outcome is always different for everyone, depending on staging, and liver condition/response to the treatment. Both TACE and RFA are effective in increasing survival but is not usually considered a 'curative' procedure. They are usually the best option if surgery or transplant is not possible. I've heard of another promising internal radiation treatment Yttrium that has proved successful in increasing survival rates in recent years. In my case, my father was diagnosed with unresectable liver cancer just over 2 years ago. He underwent one cycle of TACE and RFA, had stable condition for much of the last 2 years until recently. The problem with TACE and RFA is that they are invasive and increases the risk of tumor seeding and metastasis. Make sure you find a hospital that has the expertise in this procedure. Not heard of Typhonium Flagelliforme. My dad is on the Gerson therapy which also relies on a similar vegan diet. Tough but it appears to have helped. Keep me updated on your mum if you don't mind. Let me know if there's anything I can help. Vincent

Re: My mum suddenly got diagnosed with liver cancer stage 4

hi Vincent thank you so much for your information. I heard about gerson therapy.. it seems the type of juicer we use would determine the effectiveness wouldn’t it? my mum lives in a small town near Jakarta in Indonesia while I live here in sydney. it seems her cancer is very aggressive. she now can not swallow food so the hospital gives her feeding tube but we can not keep her in hospital for too long due to the cost. so at her home she eats everything mashed. she only able to eat 3 table spoon. coz she has difficulty swallowing. the doctor said her cancer has expanded to the size of her wrist in her heart which suppress her larynx?? and impact on her digest system. she done TACE once back in February and it's due for the second one soon but we still apprehensive due to her weakness. Anyway I am just wondering my mum AFP has reached 43 000 mg / ul how long would her survival rate be with TACE or without TACE since her first diagnosed. Also the doctor assumed that what trigger my mum liver cancer wheter could be Afla toxic B1 ... or mostly caused by consuming cooked food that has been left outside the fridge. Just currious coz my mum nether a drinker nor a smoker. She also didn’t suffer or even have hepatitis Hows your dad got diagnosed with liver cancer at the first place? So you saying your dad now only undergo gerson therapy? Thank you so much vincent.

Re: My mum suddenly got diagnosed with liver cancer stage 4

Jozmaye, A routine checkup found 3 lesions in different segments in his liver, the largest being about 5cm. Surgery was not possible, so we decided on TACE and RFA in the end. Have your doctor suggested taking sorafenib? Vincent
