Third time unlucky

Hi everyone, wish I had done this earlier, my husband has been going through cancer for nearly 7 years, back in 2019 he was diagnosed with oesophagus cancer, so went through treatment and a large operation where they took out his oesophagus and most of his stomach, then 18 months later he had a spot on his lung, that was cut out, then early last year he was diagnosed with prostrate cancer, this one really threw us , so he as had radiation and is on hormone treatment we are about 11 months into that. Lately he is getting so tired and sore all the symptoms are coming back, he has had another PSA test and we find out the results on Thursday . I don't want to sound like I'm winging but I'm tired of all the stress, his hormones are all over the place, I can't do anything right, I'm tired of being his sounding board. I know he can't help it and he is scared and he is tired of fighting cancer it's just taking a toll. He keeps telling me that he will not be here for much longer that it's got him this time. Thanks I just needed to vent

Re: Third time unlucky

Hi @Michelle2

I am so sorry to hear what you're experiencing. It is so difficult caring for someone with cancer, esspecially as you have been on the rollercoaster for so long now. I hear that you're feeling really tired and exhausted by all the stress. It can be really common to feel these feelings as a long term carer, you are not alone.

Cancer Council has some really wonderful resources and avenues for support you can read about here.

There are a number of support groups available for carers that you may find helpful. You can call us on 13 11 20 to find out about support groups in your area, or our nation wide telephone support group.

Perhaps others in the community could share how they have coped caring for someone with advanced cancer?

Its really great you reached out to this forum for support.

Take care,

Felicity
