Possible Melenoma inside eye. Anyone, please?

Hi there everyone :) My names Mikayla, I'm sixteen years old and yesterday I had my first visit to an optometrist in 5 years, I had a digital retinal photography session done, an my optometrist found a very large area of dark brown pigmentation at the back of my eye, he says that while it isnt very raised, it is highly unusual for someone of my age, and he wants to keep a very close eye on it in case it grows or changes, or is melenoma. The guy said just to check in 6 months, but I feel scared, he tells me it could be melenoma and is unusual then tells me to just wait six months then see how it goes? I just.. I don't know what to do. I'm trying not to worry. Its just hard. I don't understand any of this and I dont know what to do. Please help?

Hi Mikayla, that sounds really scary. It doesn't matter what the odds are, as soon as you hear you may have cancer, you can't rest easy until you know for sure. I would recommend you get a second opinion and see if you can get someone to investigate further. Six months is a long time to wait. That being said, getting a biopsy of something in the back of your eye sounds really tricky, so they might want to spare you the procedure unless it's really necessary. Hi Mikayla, Ask for a referral to an opthomologist for a more qualified opinion. Whilst your optometrist may be good, the opthomologist is a specialist in eye disease and will run more thorough tests. My fingers are crossed for a good prognosis for you.
