HNPCC (Hereditary Non Polyposis Colon Cancer)

What ype of testing do you have to do regularly? My testing has stopped. Isn't it strange that no one else has mentioned this HNPCC symptom?

You dont still have blood tests every 3 months? It has been a year for me since I finished my chemo.  I expect to still have test every 3 months for at least another year. Kaza

HNPCC (Hereditary Non Polyposis Colon Cancer)

Hello everyone, No, I don't have regular testings. I am due to see my oncologist next week, but feel that all is going ok. I have 3 adult children, who need to have a colonscopy, but so far they haven't done anything about it yet. It kind of annoys me that they haven't, but then I guess the final decision is with them. For me, the earlier you can have these types of testings, if there is anything there, then they can "catch" it early. My brother is on a colonscopy every 5 years.

Wow, that was a quick reply. I too, have to have annual colonoscopies and every two years a gastroscopy, also mammograms. So far, that is all I have to have. I am not due to see my genetic professor now until they can "discover" something. In July it was twelve months since I had my "modified radical hysterectomy and removal of lymph nodes".

HNPCC (Hereditary Non Polyposis Colon Cancer)

Hi Bev I have a check up every 3 months by my Oncologists.  I have blood tests done before I see him and this checks my cancer markers.  I also have an annual colonoscopy and mammogram.  I have had a bone density test and from the results from this I will be seeing a doctor to do with hormones.  This has been all advised by my Oncologist.  I hope this helps you.  How long has it been since your cancer? Keep in touch Kaza

Thanks for that. Actually it was my gynaecological oncologist who suggested this to me. Tumour testing proved positive but blood tests negative. I have been told that they feel as if there is something, but cannot find anything yet. They will continue on. Have a good day.

HNPCC (Hereditary Non Polyposis Colon Cancer)

Good morning, All I can say is that our specialists must have been very alert to this.  Anything that we can do to prevent this "thing called cancer" must be good. (hope this makes sense)

Good morning, I thank my Oncologist. He arranges and advises me what I should be doing.  When I see him for my 3 monthly check up he has my year planned out with testing.   Kaza

Re: HNPCC (Hereditary Non Polyposis Colon Cancer)

Good morning everyone, Well, my annual colonoscopy and gastroscopy came back clear, thank goodness. Looks like my mum has bowel cancer now, but that has nothing to do with genetics I have been told. I inherited the cancer through my grandfather and father, both also had bowel cancer. Gee, I loved my dad, but when I finally meet up with him again, won't I give him something!!!! Yesterday I had a bowel ultrasound, and a few weeks ago I had my gall bladder out. The only testing I do now for HNPCC is my annual colonoscopy and bi annual gastroscopy. Hope everyone has a lovely christmas and an even healthier 2010.
