So many American based services for young adults with cancer.... where are the Australian ones?

Not applicable

Re: So many American based services for young adults with ...

Hi Nikki Now What was originally targeting an older age group than the lower end of the CanTeen demographic (12-24)as research has identified that support services and infromation for this group is lacking (but I dont have to tell you that!) Now What is written towards those over 18 and is defnintiely applicable for those over 25. We also tried to design the site so that it was appropriate for young men as we know their access to services is much less than women. Many if the issues we discuss are about work and uni and relationships, loss of independence....all things that are pertinent to both young adults and younger people. WE also have heaps of links to other sites. We are continually looking for content suggestions and stories for Now What so if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, we would love to hear them! You can email us at nowwhat@canteen.org.au Thanks NW

I just joined this forum specifically to respond because I'm surprised one service isn't already listed. The Warwick Foundation was founded about 5 years ago to specifically address the lack of Australian-based cancer services for young adults. They are redeveloping their website at the moment but you can get their contact details from it. Visit: http://thewarwickfoundation.org.au/

Hi Nikki, The Warwick Foundation is an Australia-wide (but Melbourne based) cancer charity especially created to look after the unique needs of people aged 25-40 with cancer. One of their programs is called 'Mates in My Shoes', which connects people with the same cancer, and similar demographic (if they can be found). I highly recommend them as a support organisation for young Australians with cancer. www.thewarwickfoundation.org.au Emily
