All i can say is you poor thing, like you havent been through enough already!!
I think you are very brave for going back to work, try not to worry about it as you can only do your best and im sure your work colleges are going to be very understanding after all you have been through.
I think we all worry about the cancer coming back, that is only natural and I dont think that will ever go away, someone did say to me once it will probably become easier to deal with (mind you they arent a cancer patient!!)
Im not sure if i am very helpful but i just wanted to wish you all the very best of luck for your first day back at work tomorrow, try not to be too hard on yourself like i said you can only do your best and not to many people in your situation would be rushing back to work so good on you!!
Enjoy yourself

Im not sure what you can do, i lost my mum when i was 13 and we lived in a remote area, i found that people just ringing to show they care and ask how you are is enough when you are a long distance away.
Just dont forget about your friend in six months time, at the beginning when the loss is new everyone seems to rally around and try to be there for the person etc and then they think they are doing ok and people dont mean to but everyone seems to get on with life and its happenings and thats when the person is probably needing you the most when everything has settled down.
Maybe invite him to you for a little break away or offer to go and stay if you think thats what he needs and you are able to?
I hope you are coping ok with the loss aswell.
All the very best

Hi Ben
I have just read what you have written, im not sure how many staples i have etc but i know there is a few up there from a Scan done and the dr pointing them out!
I have a J Pouch and its all good, i had a stoma for 9 months, had the reversal done in June and i am finding everything to be fine, i had heard lots of horror stories about the reversal etc and people not making it to the toilet but i havent had any dramas, and finding that as time gets by i am feeling more settled in the tummy.
Hopefully when you are reversed yours works the same.
All the best

Hi there
I have just finished a year of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, a major bowel operation to remove a tumour & lymph nodes, had a stoma for nine months, went through another six months of chemo then an operation to reverse the stoma.
I am yet to have my first checkup which will be a CT Scan & colonoscopy.
What i would like to know is does this ever get any easier i am feeling very anxious about the first lot of scans, how will i cope if they do find something, even though i am usually very positive and i have a fairly good feeling there is nothing there, is it more scary for the first lot of tests or each time you go through this.
Also i feel like i dont know alot about my diagnosis, is this normal. Im not sure if i am not asking enough questions, it all happened very quickly, im from the country and went to have a colonoscopy on a thursday was told they found a tumour that day, saw the colorectal surgeon the next day and it all went from there, six weeks later i was starting chemotherapy.
I have had a few people ask me what type of tumour it was, whats my CEA level etc? These sort of things i have no idea about, do other oncologists tell their patients or do you have to ask? Also when are you in remission? I get that asked alot and i dont know if i am currently in remission or do i have to wait the five years?
Just wouild like to hear your thoughts and would also like to hear from other people who have been through the same thing.

I hope that you have had some luck and been granted your visa and your lovely wife can stay comfortable where she is rather than have to deal with more stress and heartache and just beable to live her days with her beautiful family.
All the very best wishes go to you and your family xx

i totally agree i try and hide alot of emotions from my friends and family not because i want to be the tough one or the strong and amazing one i want to protect them, i feel like i have already put these people who love and care for me so much through alot so dont want to weigh them down with anymore emotional baggage, im not sure if that is the right way to do things or i am seen as blocking people out when i am trying to do the right thing by them?

Do you have to have any followup treatment after the operation?
