Hi Suzie, I had a hysterectomy due to Uterine Cancer in August 2011, with no chemo or radiation therapy to follow up. I now wonder at times if I should have had follow p treatments, but my oncologist is very thorough and is keeping a close watch on me. I can even call him for a chat if I get hyper-sensitive about any real or imagined changes I notice. Put the feelings down to survivors guilt. Just because you were able to be treated successfully with surgery alone, does not mean that you got off lightly. You still had to deal with the shock of diagnosis, the waiting for surgery, the emotions you have about the changes to your body....just to name a few issues. Get out there and make the most of your second chance/wake up call.......work on your bucket list and enjoy life whilst you can.....you never know what is around the corner. ... View more

I am so sorry to hear about all the mix ups the medico's have been putting you through. Unfortunately, this does happen more frequently than we would all like. I have been very fortunate with the quality of my suite of medico's, however, back in the 80's my family lost my mother to breast cancer. The specialist she was seeing made a monumental f$@& up because he had two patient with the same first initial and surname...my mother, Glenda N and another lady Gwenda N. Gwenda surcomed to her condition and they archived my mothers file by mistake. I won't go on with the details, but when my mother got really sick again, we asked her oncologist how much time we had. We were told a minimum of 6 months....Mum lost her battle two weeks later. Any prediction of how much time a loved one may have left is only a best guess. Sometimes they get it pretty close, other times they are way off the mark. Just make the most of every day, and never put off anything because you think they are just having a bad day. Hi Dasha, I suggest your hubby tries eating dried prunes, apricots and figs...all natural laxatives. It sounds like the medications he is taking are causing him to become dehydrated. I know you have said that he drinks plenty of fluids, but if it is in the form of tea or coffee it will not be helping at all. Plain old water is the best way to go. I do hope that you find something that works for him quickly. It's no fun being constipated at the best of times, least of all when you have all the other things to deal with too. Gook luck. Hi Rita, I have been lucky enough to not need chemo as yet, but I did watch my mother go through it in the 80's. Like the others have advised, small meals om tap whenever your friend feels like eating are good. Another thing we did for Mum was to try and start her day with a mug of Sustagen. It has a whole lot of goodies in it that will help build her up. Keep up your good work in supporting her through all of this. Sorry to hear that you are receiving a hard time from idiots at your work. Unfortunately, I know how you feel. Whilst I was off working trying to work out what was going on with my health (before my cancer was found), I was made redundant by a manager that I had a love-hate relationship with for a number of years. One good thing came it of it all though. The redundancy payout gave me enough money to be able to take the 6 months off work that I needed to recover (leaving me with a tidy nest egg left over). If you are concerned about your managers attitude (laughing at you and your illness) I suggest that you report your concerns to your HR department. They have a duty of care to address his behaviour, especially under these circumstances. Another avenue you may want to investigate would be to contact Fair Work Australia.
