So I've had my surgeries, radioactive iodine treatment, first little followup appointment with the endocrinologist, and now have to wait for the full 6 months after treatment before I can have the blood tests done to see if it has re appeared.
While I have been given the 'all clear' from the scans in April, the problem is that my Hurthle Cell Cancer likes to travel, and there is no 'marker' in your blood to tell you if it has traveled anywhere. All they can test for is the thyroglobulin levels in your body to be low to help prevent it reappearing.
It also does not appear in the lymph nodes, so I do not know what happens. I do believe that is is not in my system, but like anything there is still an element of doubt and fear. While I do not dwell on this too much and live my life fully (still very tired and adjusting to medication) it is in the back of my mind.
It was a fluke finding the first lump so if there was to be another one somewhere else, how on earth would i find it! I am not a small person and we have lumps everywhere in our bodies...lol...
Anyhow I am writing to offload some thoughts. I am privileged to be in such good health when many people around me are doing it hard with regards to their treatments.
But every journey is different. Feelings and symptoms are just as real for one person as to another and we do need to listen.
May I encourage everyone to take it a day at a time, moment by moment, and look for the little things to make you happy and encourage you in your journey through this stage of your life.
God Bless
Christine

So further to everything I have had the radioactive iodine treatment which is recommended for thyroid cancers even though mine is a rare cancer.
All went well and according to the scans the cancer had not spread anywhere else at this stage which is great.
I am currently looking for another Dr to look after me as I have moved interstate throughout this process. This is quite a stressful situation as I now have to find someone else to trust with my care.
But always optimistic...I know things will work out.
Happy to chat.

You are welcome Ann,
You are sounding a little better at the moment 🙂 I Haven't heard you say too much about being sad etc. I'm happy we can be here for you.
I am doing ok without the medicine...very tired but I have an almost 2 year old and my eldest will be 4 at the end of January next year, so they keep me very busy when I'm not at work. Also looking after the house etc. Who isn't tired after all of that on a normal day?!
Yes, treatment starts on Thursday. I'm not too worried about it. More a little anxious about leaving my family for 2 weeks but I know it's for the best. Lots of video calls and updates 🙂
I try not to think about it...happy it's almost here and I will be happy when it's over and done with and I can start to get back to 'normal' 🙂
I hope you both have a great week 🙂
Will let you know how I do after the treatment.

Hi Christine,
I am newly diagnosed and have gone through almost exactly the same thing - thyroid is the most treatable so everything will be fine, to yours is a rare more aggressive type of thyroid cancer we have to do lots of tests. I was diagnosed on Thursday last week and yesterday told by the specialist it was more serious. I'd love to talk to you more about the surgery (I'm expecting a complete thyroidectomy and lymph node dissection of everything on the right hand side). If you are happy to talk and share your experiences so far I would love to talk more.
Best of luck with your treatment, and I hope the body scan results were good news.
