So my mum lost her battle with pancreatic cancer at 1.44am today, surrounded by her four kids. I am reeling from it. She was ony diagnosed with the cancer in January and 4 months later she is gone. Mum was just tired when we visited her yesterday morning. But then got the call from the hospital at 9pm that her blood pressure had fallen and the end could be coming. Just feel like there was no time to really come to terms with the cancer and while we knew it was terminal still not quite prepared for how fast the end came. Now I have lost both parents to cancer within 6 years of each other. We are trying to console ourselves that she went before the cancer progressed and got any worse and she is no longer in pain and reunited with Dad.

Hi Biris Sorry to hear about your dad. While I can't say I know what it's like to deal with a baby and a dying parent, I can empathise somewhat. My dad passed away from terminal liver cancer 6 years ago now and my mother has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and opting for quality of life with myself as the main carer. Dad's case was possibly an untreated case of hep c when he was a child. If you would like to talk about it anytime, I'm willing to listen if you like. I found that there was very little support groups in the way of liver cancer. My dad fought it for 18 months. Please be gentle with yourself and ask for help from friends with the baby.

Thanks KJ Sorry for the delay in response. It looks like Mum is going for the quality of life option rather than treatment. Admittedly I'm struggling with that, even though I know full well it's her decision. In truth, I'd probably opt for the same thing if I was in her shoes. Trying to put on a brave face for Mum, but very hard to keep it together when I'm by myself. Feel bad that I can't be as fully supportive at the moment as I should. Though she did only tell me last night.

Hi. My 83 year old mum has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and it's been a huge shock to our family. The oncologist doesn't seem to give much hope to mum just because of her age. 6 years ago, I lost my dad to terminal liver cancer and helped my mum nurse my dad. I'm the youngest of four but because my other siblings are married with kids and live quite a few suburbs away, I now find myself the primary carer for my mum. I know I've been through this before but I'm thinking it will be more difficult. I work full time and have been lucky enough to get carers leave. I'm returning to work this week and not sure if I will be able to juggle it all. Hoping to find support here! Thanks for reading.
