Saw my gp today about a lump in my neck. She said it is a lymph node .I had googled diagrams of lymph nodes and thought it wasn't in the right place to be one.I'm having an ultrasond tomorrow and depending on the result maybe a needle biopsy on Tuesday. Even if it is not cancer she thinks it should be taken out .The head and neck clinic doctors debated this in February and March last year before my surgery.Their opinions varied ,but the ent decided in the end as he will this time . It's like a new little thing to worry about. It could be nothing. This time I found it and over days it changed.Last year it was hardly detectable but it showed up on the PETscan. What a cute name for a whole -body scan. I don't know how to type an exclamation mark, must ask my husband. Why did I google lymph nodes? Because I like to know all I can before seeing a doctor, not self-diagnosing (I wish I could) but to be prepared. I will know more in a few days ,maybe enough to not worry ,maybe enough to worry more. That's life with cancer.

I had the ultrasound this morning and was told that lump was thyroid cartilage and it was normal.I believe him about what it is but it doesn't feel normal to me but will take that up with my gp .He did checked the lymph nodes in the area and found 3 or 4 which are a enlarged .He thinks it's probably not cancer but they should be checked to be sure. The FNA,fine needle biopsy ,will be on Tuesday afternoon.I'm not worried after what he said.

Dear Lynette, Health and Wellness Suppot Groups-Inspire If you google that, it is another site like this one. A group which may give you info is Rare Cancer Alliance and another is Nord . What is your cancer called? I'll try to find info if you tell me what it is and then tell you where to look if I succeed. My cancer is rare but I found lots of stuff on the net ,although not all is applicable to me . I had my ultrasound and the particilar lump was thyroid cartilage ,but he found 3 or 4 nodes that were enlarged . He doesn't think they are cancer but to be sure he booked me in for a fine needle biopsy . They may only do the largest one. That is on Tuesday. I'm not worried just a little concerned , as it is probably ok . I am still concerned about the first lump but will see the gp about it again because it wasn't always there, even if it is not a lymph node. How are you going ?Did you have neck radiation? You may have said so already ,I will re-read all you have written before we next talk. Talk soon

Thanks for reply ,Lynette. I'm not really worried about Tuesday. Some people on this site and the others probably have squamous cancer. You can just ask in your next post. Maybe they won't have it in the same place in the body but they might be able to tell you more about it. Your doctors would have the info you need.I will try the net for you later.

Dear lynette , I googled your cancer in the nose and nose cancers are rare but squamous cell cancer is the most common nasal cancer so there is info there.I don't know why you can't get info from your doctors.Maybe they only tell you what they think you need to know but they should answer your questions. I think you could write down questions and when you see a doctor just ask. I have done this and still sometimes the conversation gets onto something else ,time runs out and some questions don't get answered so they have to be for the next visit. The next visit with that doctor is 6 months away, but I think I know a lot about my cancer from the net and sites like this one. As far as I know nobody on this site has my cancer but on other sites a few do.

Sorry you have been sick. I'm glad you accepted my friend request. I think I have read about one or 2 people having their jaw reconstructed on another site. I suggest you ask in a blog here if anyone has had this. I realise it is a big thing. Meanwhile I'll look on my other sites and let you know if I find any information. The doctors probably know what's best and should give you lots of info but it is better to find out more so you can weigh it up .I do hope you make the right decision for you. It's your body and your life and you will have to live with whatever you choose. Are you talking to family or close friends about it ? They would know less than you but you need someone to talk to about it,I'll bet. Stay in touch and say whatever you feel .
