Hi there sorry I have been tied up and not in this sight , I have had two lots of radiation therapy and yes a neck dissection , I had it 12 months ago and yes my neck is still swollen but it's starting to reshape I was unlucky that they found a mass but lucky that te mass was not cancer only the lynth node but they took a large chunk out and for me it was hard to adapt to , but there are so many more with harder things to cope with. I had the burning etc but try Manuka honey I swear by it the second radiation treatment was a bigger area but I did not feel as bad as I did the first time. Is also really important to try to maintain your weight even though it gets hard to swallow I found the dairy section in the supermarket ate lots of yoghurt and custards . Let me know if I can help , don't worry to much about the mask it's tight fitting but it has to be but you only have it on for a few minutes at a time. ... View more

Sorry it's bit of a tough slog ,I have had neck dissension about 12 months and two lots of radiation therapy ,it's a long story but I am back at work and getting on with things. Yes I can understand your partner getting angry I did to but I transferred my anger to the cancer and unfortunately a doctor that could not be god, it's like you just want to hit out and the fear is great , does the hospital have a support group for both of you . Hi CJF I can relate to your apprehension I go into deep anxiety when I have to go for a check up I know how important it is but I always am so uncertain even when my voice sounds a little hoarse I immediately think it's back for about a second then I decide I need to be more positive just get on with things. Hi I've had some funny comments made and sometimes I forget about the cancer then someone will allways bring it all back , although I quite happy to explain to anyone my cancer experience and try to support as much as I can..... Hi Riss I had radical neck dissection last year , cjf describes it pretty good I was in hospital for five days I needed to wait for the drainage to clear , they found a growth unexpected during the operation and had to remove it , so the operation was bigger , but it was not cancerous it was still confined in the lymph node which they removed, I was quite swollen and also had radiotherapy straight after , but I went back to work full time since Feb , the swelling has gone done a lot I massage my neck I bought one of those neck massage electric and I find this helps . Also the scarring is not bad as they keep it in the creases of your neck . Let me know if you need anymore information.... Hi I have 2 rounds of radiation therapy , I finished the last round in december my taste buds took a couple of months to return , I still have a very dry throat in the night so I always make sure I have water by the bed I am able to eat anything .. I still do the mouth washes etc and use a Manuka honey spray when my throat gets dry. Hope everything comes back for you seems by reading it's an individual thing ........ Take care ... View more
