Today I recieved a phone call from my oncologist who thought it better that I have my chemo treatment through a pic? rather than the tablets that were suggested on Friday,not sure as to why but have to attend an education session at the hospital tomorrow.The unknown scares the living heck out of me and the change in direction doesn't do much for the heart either.Trying to stay strong and positive like so many people are on this site,learning to draw new strengths and be bigger than fear is one of the hardest things to do.Feel so much better just by putting this out there.Huge hugs and wishes X

HI Tina All very scary stuff but it sounds similar to the regime I had to follow although I did not have radiotherapy. The PICC line delivers the chemo more directly and I had very positive results with it shrinking the tumour completely before my surgery. I had two types of chemo delivered directly every 3 weeks with a continuous infusion throughout the whole period of chemo and this was for 9 weeks prior to surgery and then supposedly for 9 weeks afterwards but have not had the chemo post op due to there being no evidence of cancer at surgery and all the lymph nodes they removed being clear. Hopefully if you go down this track you will get a similar outcome. The chemo afterwards was a mopping up exercise apparently but as there was no cancer at surgery time then no need to mop up, but that was my choice. Good luck with the PICC and believe me it has its positives make sure blood tests are taken through it as it will lesson your need to face the dreaded needle every week Good luck and hope your journey is smooth.

Tina, i was told the chemo tablets werent as effective or maybe not proven to be as effective as going through a port or pic line. They said if i was an 80 year old woman then i could do the tablets but as a 29 year old the best thing was to stick with what is known and proven to be the right and best way of doing things. You can have your bloods taken thru these lines as well which saves alot of grief. Have you got someone you can take to the hospital with you tomorrow to help listen, i found this really helpful as its such an information overload that sometimes your support person hears alot more than you do. Tina,don't feel bad calling me Silly. I just use that name as I don't want to be identified by the public in cyberspace. Even now if I google my real name some Facebook posts appear . Things I've said on this and another site came up a while ago when I googled my cancer . I do hope all goes well for you.
