Hi all of you wonderful people. I wonder if any of you have ever had a reiki session and if so, did you find it helpful. As I have no idea what happens except that it is something to do with energy passing from the person doing the reiki to the recipient!!??!!. A neighbour who I have met a couple of times while walking my little dog said she is "a healer and practices reiki" if I am interested in seeing her. Hmmm I don't know - if people have found it beneficial then I am willing to give it a go. A friend and I were discussing anger and cancer and she said she has read that unresolved anger and anger causing you to implode has been shown to cause cancer!! I read recently that this is nonsense and that cancer causes are in the main, unknown. Yes I know there are hundreds of differing views on causes and treatments but I was hoping reiki could ease my self loathing and unresolved anger and guilt - or maybe just soothe my mind!. Until recently, I believed my cancer was a punishment for stuffing up my life - now I believe I brought it on myself for not looking after myself properly over the past 20 or so years. Thanks if anyone can assist.

Hi Cats, You must not blame yourself for your cancer, no one brings this onto themselves. We all think we are getting punished for our actions but if that were so then lots of criminals would get cancer as well. I have a friend who does Reiki for me, it did give me some peace of mind, but I cannot say whether it was the Reiki or just talking to her that helped. I do believe that the mind can do a LOT, and therefore you must forgive yourself for whatever you think you have done. Self loathing does not help healing so you really must let go of these feelings. If your friend does not charge you for the Reiki, give it a go with an open mind, it cannot hurt you. Just relax while she is doing it and let go of anger and guilt. All the best. S

Hi CATS Well let's try again. I prepared a reply, sent it to preview and I got logged out an lost it. Sometimes strange things happen with this site. By all means try Reiki, it's not going to hurt, but as Vinouche says it may just be the talking that helps. Personally I would recommend mainstream counselling and you can get that on medicare via your GP. Guilt is such a disabling emotion and not all that helpful. Who says that you have stuffed up your life? You made decision based on your thinking and feelings at the time. With the accuracy of hindsight some of them may not have proved to be the greatest decisions, but you can't go back and change them. There is a quote somewhere about getting back the years that the locusts have eaten - it is not possible! So blaming yourself is a bit extreme when it comes to cancer. Cancer is caused by changes to the genetic material in our cells. Some of these may have been inherited, some may come from environmental factors and some may be the result of ageing, but most of them we have little control over. In the case of environmental factors there is usually a long time between these impacting and the cancer appearing and did we even know about them thirty or forty years ago. Bit hard to blame ourselves for something that even the experts didn't know about. Who says that you haven't looked after yourself properly anyway? What do we mean by looking after ourselves properly? April 29 last year I posted a blog on the "what ifs" In that I said that going down that pathway leads to madness - I still think that. We have to get on and live our lives as best we can - as I said in that blog "We work with what we have been given, try to make the best outcome from that. We try to ensure that we keep the boat of life, well trimmed, sailing to it's best, and performing as well as it can under the conditions. If a roque wave swamps us, we bail. If we get a knock from the wind that sets us back, we retrim the sails and try to make up the distance. We keep going." Cheers Sailor I keep sailing on in this middle passage. I am sailing into the wind and the dark. But I am doing my best to keep my boat steady and my sails full. Arthur Ashe

Hi Cats, Please try to rid the self loathing. I was down that path for a while and like Sailor, pondered on the "what-ifs ". I now realise that I can't change what has happened, nor can I change anything that I may have done to exacerbate my getting cancer. So now, I try really hard to make the most of today and tomorrow - even if that means my sore feet. Reiki would be completely hrmless and I had a friend some yeras ago who was suffering really badly with chemo effects and he had reiki and his wife said that it was the first good night's sleep he had had in about 10 years. And he was a sceptic. I agree with Saior about the counselling. See what your Gp can do. It is helping me. No tears for 5 weeks (and counting). Take care and cuddle the dog, S

Hey Cats I have had and given Reiki. Its the transference of universal energy ... so not someone's personal energy that gets transferred. Whether you believe that or not it is a great relaxation therapy and i dont know anyone that doesnt feel great after reiki. 🙂 When you first finish your reiki you will feel quite groggy and a little disoriented. You just sit and drink water and that soon passes and then you feel fantastic. Most people comment on how well they sleep the night after a reiki session. It is interesting when i give reiki as i can often feel problem spots that people have. If you told me all of this before i did it i would have laughed and was very sceptical until i had some reiki done on me and my muscles started doing things all by themselves. Hope you enjoy it if you decide to do it. Julie xo
