Hi Everyone

Hi to all, i would just like to say what a great site this is for support. I am a 42yo male,15 years ago my mother called me & told me dad had a rare form of bone cancer.Dad actually had symptoms for 2 years before the diagnosis but was very stubborn & thought it was arthritis! So began his journey with a replacement of the femur bone in his leg, a brief recovery & physio. For the next six years he had no issuses but then started to get pain back in his hip. Another operation was then done to remove more bone & soft tissue, at the same time an x-ray was called for & his doctors found 20-30 shadows on his lungs. Last year they found growths in his liver so doctors gave him radiotherapy for it & the lung issue. His wieght is down to 54kg & last week his specialist advized that a hospice place get booked. We are very stressed as a family because dad is in extreme denial about his condition & on occasion has become abusive to my mother even going as far to blame her for his cancer. He wont even contemplate pain control & wont go near his morphine. Even the GP that they both go to is at wits end with his attitude! I get very worried for both of them as mum is herself recovering from a masectomy. Sorry for this long winded outpouring but I really dont know what to do without causing world war 3 within my family, thanks Joshr

Re: Hi Everyone

Hi Joshr, Believe me I so know what your going through. My dad has brain cancer and is very stubborn as well. Sometimes I feel like world war 3 is going on in my family as well. My dad was also abusive towards my mother during his first cancer. It feels like we have to walk on eggshells all the time and be careful what we say or do not to upset them. I also agree with your comment on this being a great site. I enjoy it very much as well and I'm new here too. 😃

Re: Hi Everyone

Hi Katdoe, thanks for your comment and i am sorry to hear about your Dad. My Dad is now down to about 50 Kg, had another big op at RPA last Friday...we bought him some ensure plus to drink about a month ago & he rang only a few days ago asking how to mix it up as he cant eat due to stitches in his mouth....mum was much relieved as she had been trying to get him to drink it for the last month. Must admit its putting us all under huge strain but at least mum is not talking divorce at this moment in time. Hope your having a good day Cheers Joshr

Re: Hi Everyone

Hi Joshr, Glad to hear that your dad has decided to try the ensure route. Hopefully he keeps taking it. Your lucky that your Mom is involved with the process. My mother unfortunately is very sick herself. She had throat cancer and had to have a total laryngectomy. (Which is the removal of the vocal cords and blockage in the the throat for breathing purposes) And she cannot handle the strain of taking care of my dad. At the moment it is 4am and I'm waiting on a call back from my brother who is at the hospital because my fathers behavior was aggressive tonight. The hospital called my brother to see if my brothers presence would help calm him down. He was very agitated for some reason and the nurses did not want him to leave. (My father is a smoker...and cannot smoke in the hospital...therefore he has to go outside to smoke. He also has a history of sleep walking and he's been going to different rooms bothering other patients) Its been a very rough night =( Hope your having a better night/day then I am Kat
