Brain Cancer

I am writing on this post in a hope that it may help me to process  my grief, my pain.

My
beautiful daughter, aged 37, has been diagnosed with stage 3 brain cancer, that will shorten her life. She has two children aged 5yrs and 2yrs. Her husband is also a wonderful man.

Our friends and family are all supporting us and our daughter with so much love and generosity and kindness. But, they are not on this nightmare journey of losing one of their own children.

I want to take it from her. She has her life ahead of her. Her children.

How do I comfort her knowing she will die before her time? And how I comfort her when she is suffering everyday as she endures radiation and chemo? And how do I comfort her!! There isn’t really anything I can do! This is my pain.

We  aren’t the only family suffering through a journey that is similar . I just don’t know how to get through it.

Re: Brain Cancer

Hi Lyn. I don’t know what to say. I feel the weight of that cancer everyday and it sucks. All we can do is take one step at a time. My prayers and love go to you and your family.

Re: Brain Cancer

Hi @Lyn67 I'm so sorry to hear of the diagnosis of your daughter. It's such a shock for a parent to find out that their child's life will be shortened. It can seem so unfair - especially when there are young children involved. The weight of all this is a lot to carry.

Please know that you can call 13 11 20 to talk to one of our health professionals about support options such as counselling and support groups for carers. Connecting with support can be really helpful as you navigate the journey ahead in finding ways to be by her side and comfort her when she needs it.

In the meanwhile, here is some information on caring for someone with cancer that you might find useful.

I also encourage you to keep sharing your journey here - processing what's going on in a safe environment like this online forum can also be helpful. There is always someone here reading and hearing what is going on for others.

Stay strong,

Miranda
