There are so many people surviving cancer and to those outside all looks ok but it seems there area variety of side effects . Some are evedent to others ,e.g. cahanged appearance from surgery but most not so . Surgery,radiation and chemo do change many forever .I've seen radiation described as the "gift that keeps on giving". It could be said of chemo,I guess,too. If these side effects were known to people I wonder how many more would choose not to try ,especially when the prognosis is not expected to be much better with the treatments . It is a rare place to have cancer and it is a rare cancer that I have . I belong to a group on Facebook which is only for people with this cancer and we all help each other . Many are worse off than I .They have had recurrences and lung mets ,both of which are common for this cancer . Many have suffered much more disfigurement from several surgeries . Many are participating in clinical trials with various chemos ,some with success but some with no success. All chemo for this cancer is experimental .I am lucky so far . ... View more

I want to wish you all the best during the treatment . It is good that something has started .It was 2 months after my diagnosis till my surgery and later radiation . The waiting for me was the hardest time . It was necessary to have tests done so surgery could be planned . Later ,radiation planning took a while and there was a few days delay at the start when they told me more time was needed It was worth it in the end . ... View more

I can understand your anxiety but remember that every person's cancer situation is a bit different .It's a bit like my mum's thought /fear that she would die at a certain age ,the age at which both her parents died,albeit in different years ,from different things .She is now 8 years past that age . It seems to be that we get these fears,founded or unfounded .
