You're not paranoid, people just don't want to accept the reality. My husband won't survive his cancer & I'm sick of people telling me stories of so & so having cancer & how well they're doing now!! Barring a miracle I have accepted my husband will eventually die, he's having chemo now but like you it's not for a cure but just to buy time. I wish you well - hang in there.

Take one day at a time, you will be suprised how quickly it becomes part of your life. Being there for your mum is most important & she will appreciate your support no end. Hope she will be feeling better as time goes on.

Your father has battled so valiantly, remember all the good times in his life, your life & the lives of his grandchildren, may all the good memories comfort you in some way as there are no words I can find that will take away your pain at this time. Wishing you & your family the strength to cope.

My husband spent 11 hours at the hospital last Friday having tests etc in an endeavour to get into a clinical trial. The doctor phoned today & said at the moment they don't think he's fit enough to go on the trial! (How fit do they expect him to be? He's had cancer for over a year!!!) Even before cancer my husband wasn't what you would class as an active person, he had retired from work & his days mostly consisted of sitting in front of the TV! I know in his state having chemo would probably set him back even more but they're taking away his one hope of treatment that could maybe prolong his life! His Oncologist seemed very keen on him doing the clinical trial & didn't offer much in the way of alternative treatment. Where do we go from here??

Hi Gardenia, It's normal to feel that way, I can't imagine how you wouldn't after caring for someone that long! I've been caring for my husband for the past 10 months & I often feel I'm trapped in limbo. I just hate to see my husband suffering, there isn't much hope for a cure & I dread what is ahead. Don't feel you are selfish, I sometimes think about what my life will be like when all this is over, that may sound selfish but I still like to think I have some good times to look forward to in my life. Continue to take time out for yourself, don't feel guilty about the time you take it's one of the few ways to keep your sanity! I wish you well.

Hi Val, My husband has the same cancer as you, he was diagnosed last August, he's been through 6 months of chemo, like you the drip for 1 day & then he took xeloda tablets for 3 weeks until the next chemo treatment. He didn't have too many nasty side effects but unfortunately the chemo seems to have stopped working, so now we are waiting to get him into a clinical trial. Hope you continue to improve, you have a positive attitude which will help. Glad you have the help of your Brother & Sister in Law it must be a very hard for you having recently lost your partner & dealing with cancer. I wish you well, keep on fighting!!

Hi Mrs Elton, thanks for your reply, I'm very interested in talking to you as your husband had the same kind of cancer that my husband has.
