I agree with Exhausted. We have been honest with our girls as they also needed to be prepared for what lays ahead, chemo-radiation, Mri's. There is no easy way to tell them dads got cancer. I hate that we had to tell them that he has brain cancer, but I can only imagine how difficult these last 19months would have been to shelter them from this. Even harder was recently telling them that new tumours are inoperable, but we could not have told them. Our girls also have lost their dog to cancer last year and their nanie has bowel cancer. Get support for them, CanTeen are great for teens, but for younger there isn't much out there. Our girls have a great role model in their dad, fighting hard and staing positive. Good luck, ... It is such a daunting time, and does take huge amounts of courage to begin this next step. Sorry I didn't ask wht type of cancer are you being treated for? How are you feeling in yourself? His chemo is reliant on how his next MRI goes (4weeks time)they were scheduling 3 cycles. With his cancer they seem to be trialing everything that they can. Hi Bubbly My husband has only done one round of etoposide 100mg x 5 days. This was in conjunction with carboplatin. Yesterday he was due to start his 2nd round (3week cycle) however his platelets and WBC were too low to go ahead, delayed for a week. They said it was the etoposide that had affected this. He has had continuous chemo treatments for brain cancer since Nov 2011 and this was our first delay on chemo. Ah yes it is good to see that treatments are similar around the world. I did laugh out loud when I read that your dad forgets to exit the on-screen TV guide, that drives my kids wild when their dad does that. His is due to visual field problems, not that he would admit. He also has been taking his seatbelt off before I stop the car (strict rule in our house with the kids) on the weekend he got out of the car as I was trying to park. Couldn't see why I was upset! ... Hi Denacm Nov 2011 we were given the dreaded GBM4 diagnosis. Since then my hubby has had two craniotomies,two rounds of radiation (one for 6weeks, the other 5 weeks) 6 MRIs endless cycles of temodal (12months) after progression it was time to change chemo to procarbazine and temodal, then dreaded progression again with new tumour inoperable we are now on carboplatin and etopiside. Throughout he has remained positive, driven and taken little time off work. I am worried everyday he leaves to catch his train for work, but this is what he wants to do for as long as he can. This is one piece of independence that he has. He does sometimes look at me vaguely, but this passes quickly. We have three kids, do you have any? Its a bumpy road at times, but live it day by day.
