Living alone with Cancer and Depression

Re: Living alone with Cancer and Depression

Hi Cindi,

Sorry to hear you had a kidney infection, I'm glad you're ok now though.

My review with the surgeon went very well today, the results from the deep biopsies indicated that the cancer had not gone into the bladder muscle, thank goodness.

My surgeon has arranged for me to see the oncologist in 2 weeks to set times for immediate immunotherapy. That will be once a week for 6 weeks then once every 3 months for 4 years the once every 6 mths for life. From now on my surgeon will look inside my bladder once every 3 mths for 4 years, after this period he will review my condition. He said the treatment will be for the rest of my life, he also did say that there is a strong chance the cancer will return within the next 5 years which he will deal with it when it shows again.

I had a great couple of days with my partner, we went into the city and saw a daytime show which was great, had some nice fish and chips then went walking at the beach, and I'm certainly cheered up a bit now.

So the news today was good, as he said to me, my cancer is life long.

Hope you're ok.

Chat soon.

xx

Re: Living alone with Cancer and Depression

Hi Cindi,

How did you go with the Onc on Thursday and did you have another chemo session ?, I hope you're feeling ok, and are you well enough atm to get around and do things ok.

My appointment with the Onc is next Friday, his rooms are not far from me which is good.

I'm feeling low again today and didn't get much sleep last night even with the sleeping tablet, I'll be seeing my partner tomorrow, so that will perk me up, I haven't told you but I have lost a few teeth over the last few months, and now I don't have any chewing teeth , I brush twice a day but still they had to be removed because of decay, I'm in the process of looking into part dentures top and bottom, just another reason why I feel down as well.

Be great if we could chat on the phone.

Thinking of you and hope you're ok.

Take care

Richard xx

Re: Living alone with Cancer and Depression

Hi @Richard56 ,

Hope you're feeling a bit better today.

My treatment on Thursday was delayed till next week because of the infected kidney, so I'm feeling ok.

Was kind of disappointed as I just want to get it over and done with, but it is what it is.

I'm sorry about your teeth, my partner knows a few people who went to Thailand to get their teeth done and it was lots cheaper than here and done well, so maybe that can be something to consider? when your finished treatment? something to look forward to. But maybe not, if you can't travel.

You're at least lucky to live so close to your hospital and Onc, that will make things a bit easier for you.

Hope you have a nice time with your partner, hope it cheers you up😊

The sun's come out up here in Sydney so I'm going out for a walk.

All the best,

Cindi x

Re: Living alone with Cancer and Depression

Hi @Jennifer66 ,

Thank you for the kind words, I'll face what I have to.

How are you going? what's been happening with you?

I also see my Onc tomorrow so I'll be asking lots of questions also about why my cancer's called bladder cancer if the tumor was in my ureter!

talk soon x

Re: Living alone with Cancer and Depression

Hi Cindi54

im good had my 9th cystoscopy ureteroscopy deep biopsies and laser yesterday have my catheter out at midnight and home tomorrow

my complex and complicated  cancer still not behaving like it should and I have a new tumour in a new place, some good news the three previous tumours are gone and laser was done on my ureter

heated chemo may still be an option but with now only a 20% success rate I’m not so sure, professor wrote me a 2 page email which was really good to have all the information of my cancer as it is working slowly and not how cancer works, i don’t take it to seriously and delay things so I think he wanted to have it in writing how serious and urgent it is

but I’m good have no pain so is hard to grasp

I do wish you well with your treatment tomorrow and hope it is pain free

Re: Living alone with Cancer and Depression

Hi @Jennifer66 ,

I't's always (I think) good to have details of what you're dealing with so you can figure out what you want.

Sounds like your treatment's working if those original tumors have gone, not good though that there's a new one.

I'm surprised they don't give you normal chemo as it seems to wipe out other worrying things like:

some of my skin cancers have disappeared!

A lump in my mouth I was going to need cut out..has disappeared

& delightedly I found mosquitos hate my chemo and instead of harassing me untold like they usually do, they either go to bite me and drop dead or avoid me completely 😆 sweet revenge!!

I was just thinking? perhaps they may consider that for you?

But of course I don't know as much as your Onc,  but just thinking? might be worth asking?

Anyway, good luck to you, let us know what's happening.

Cindi xx

Re: Living alone with Cancer and Depression

Hi Cindi54

im happy your treatment went well and hoping you feel well

I came home from hospital today and feel good

my cancer is ‘complex and complicated’ as it keeps coming back and new tumours  and although the previous tumours have gone deep biopsies have been done as they come and go

I have had intravesical chemo which I didn’t  work that’s the only way for chemo for bladder cancer as mine is in the bladder not on outside lining

the only chemo now to try is intravesical heated chemo which I think a big gamble as I’ve got a 20% success rate

I had 12 treatments  of BCG  which worked but no longer working. My treatments are cystoscopy and ureteroscopy Turbt

I was pleased I got a detailed written report of my cancer from my professor as he has consulted my case with professors in America and Asia
