Hi there Rarsie! My husband's cancer was in his peritoneum.....and on his bowel, gall bladde, ureter, omentum, appendix, liver...... It remains on his bowel and is now affecting his ureters..... Consequently he lost one kidney last year as his ureter was blocked and then about three weeks ago had kidney failure because his other ureter is blocked by tumor.....although they managed to get a stent in thank goodness!! He's just had another week in hospital with low potassium and uncontrolled vomiting.....I asked the doctor if this was his body shutting down, or an acute episode that we would get through.....it was an acute episode......he's through it and home.......until the next thing goes wrong........ I was actually asked by a health professional if he was in denial about the fact that he was dying......to which I replied.....aren't we all? I don't want to be the one to take his hope away from him...bags NOT!! But it's good to have him home, even if he is grumpy and in pain and can't help me put the kids to bed(I have a six year old who is allergic to sleep, sleeping in her own bed, staying all night in the one bed.......very tiring!!) Hi Dazza! How I relate! My husband has had his third stint in hospital for the month this week. Firstly, blood in his poo, secondly, his one remaining kidney failed and then finally he could not keep food down and his potassium levels dropped..... I asked the doctor outright if this was his body starting to shut down, or if it is an acute situation we can rectify.....she answered that although It was probably an acute episode, his body wouldn't be able to take much more...... Then I had a health professional ask me if he was in denial about the fact he was dying...... Aren't we all?!?! Anyhoo- I very gently broached the subject with him ( although we have had wills made up, he has yet to sign his....) and he brushed me off......I'm not dying........ Who do you believe? I have thought since he was diagnosed that he would be around for 'at least 15 years'...... As his cancer is very rare and very slow growing......but this week.....my gut feeling has changed....... Hopefully he comes home tomorrow and we can have a frank and pragmatic discussion about his status, but I know he is scared.....so am I......... I want to be positive and upbeat for him (and myself and our kids), but maybe I just need to be honest!! Hey there! Good on you for giving it a go in trying to revive your father........ I have experienced similar watching my cousin give CPR to our grandfather, and it was awful.......although he did a sterling job, my grandfather was unable to be revived also. (having just completed a first aid course, I sought comfort in the fact that most people who receive CPR will not be revived without defib anyway).......you did the best you could under the worst of circumstances. Hi there! I too have wondered this....... My husband and I had two quite malicious acts of vandalism carried out on our new house while we slept- scared the bejesus out of us..... We took it in turns to sleep, left every light in the house on, were constantly on alert for a year afterward. Cops never caught who did it.....but three years later, my husband was diagnosed with epithelioid haemangioendothelioma....... Hi there! I will show my husband your posts....... He needs some inspiration at the moment..... He has had two stints in hospital over the last month, one for unexplained internal bleeding (2 transfusions later and they still don't know what caused it).... And kidney failure. As his left kidney (ureter)was blocked by tumor last October and has now perished, the last thing we thought was that his right ureter would block up too...... But blocked she is..... They managed to get a stent up but are not confident they will be able to do it again...... So it looks like we will be back to Sydney to see prof Morris sometime sooner rather than later.......
