I agree with most of the previous comments. Try the Cancer Council . With me it comes and goes but is less and less as time goes on. Many seem to believe in being positive .I just try to be realistic and to not worry about the future. I usually get down because of the present whereas many worry about the future . I wasn't depressed on diagnosis, awaiting surgery but scared ,anxious and insecure. It was thw waiting that was hard but it got better .I felt then that something was being done. All the best ... I think there would be less than 100 people in this country with ACC. After the head and neck clinic did their research they found only 15 people worldwide in the last 50 years(since records were kept) had this cancer in the same place as me. I have through various sites found some Australians with this cancer. I have also found many in other countries . In the USA they are active in fundraising for research into this disease. There is a case in Texas where chemo shrank tumours greatly.Any chemo for ACC is experimental and mostly not successful and any that helps one may not help others. Hi Deb, if they didn't get all of the cancer the radiation may take care of that but as you said the scans will tell you more. With mine they couldn't get it all without more radical surgery(losing my eye) but were hoping radiation would do it. So far ,so good.My cancer is adenoid cystic carcinoma.It was in the nasal cavity,tear duct and lacrimal sac.Diagnosis was in early February last year,surgery in mid April and imrt(radiation) for 6 weeks in June and July. Checks since then have not shown any cancer. Do you know if your partner is having imrt? It is used for head and neck cancers and for prostrate cancer. Did you have a planning day ? Maybe it's only in particular cases .With mine they had to do another ct scan and make a mask ,then take masurements etc. It then took a couple of weeks for it all to be worked out. So is Tuesday the start of radiation or planning day? Whichever itis all the best .The radiation itself is painless . The side effects depend on the area being treated but you probably know this by now. ... View more
