I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions with how to help with radiation damage? I'm not talking about the skin damage and fatigue that happens during radiation, I'm talking about the muscle, tissue, nerve and possible lymph node damage you only become aware of 6 - 8 weeks after finishing radiation. My oncologist never told me about these 'side effects' and said I will just have to live with the pain and stiffness for the rest of my life. I have no intention of doing that if I can find a way to help it. My surgeon has me on some pretty strong nerve stabalizing tablets, I'm also having accupuncture and I have had several visits to a physio re a large lymphodoema. None seem to be proving terribly effective and I feel like I need to see a decent physio or doctor or someone who can say, "Ok, you need to do this, this and this...." I have no idea what sort of physio would deal with this, or what sort of doctor. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be really grateful.

Hi Silly,
Sometimes people can cut like knives. It's too hard to work out where your sister is coming from. I have followed your posts enough to know you are a wonderful, caring and genuine person. It's easier said than done, but if you can, try to put her out of your mind and enjoy today (after you've let off plenty of steam first).
I hope you have a really lovely day today.

Thanks Geneandjudy. What a bummer to have to go through all that. What's Mayo? Good luck with it all and thanks for letting me know. It's nice to know someone who understands. Will be thinking of you in January. Keep us posted.

Hi Tim,
Some positive news is great. I love your new catch cry. When I found out I had cancer I found it incredibly hard telling people and worrying about their reactions. Hang in there, kiddo and stick to your catch cry. Keep telling your bad jokes etc to your kids (students) and let music saturate your bones and soul when you need.

Thanks Silly. I actually brought my oncologist's visit forward, spoke to him about the stiffness and pain and he said it was either scarring or tumor. I have since had a PET scan and will have an MRI on Friday. I see my oncologist for the results on Tuesday. I guess I'm a little impatient and can't find much on the net. Will just have to wait it out though.

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about the internal scarring which can occur after radiation? Specifically, how long after radiation finishes can it occur and what does it feel like? My area of radiation was the top of my leg.
Thanks,
Kim
